Sky News are showing pictures of a huge dust cloud too horribly familiar; according to them 4 Buildings are down and all airports are closed.

American Airlines flight 587, according to ABC. An Airbus 300 inbound to JFK
Now they’re saying Newport Avenue, Rockaway Beach.
Shit! My co-worker is thinking of leaving to go to her mother’s. Her mother lives in Howard Beach, not far from the crash. Her mother can’t dial out on her phone and it’s driving her crazy.
Boss trying to convince her to calm down first. This really sucks.
Or it could be flight 587 to Santo Domingo (It probably is mispelled). They’re throwing info (CBS) out left and right, and I can’t be sure if it’s accurate.
BBC now say it was flight 587 bound for Dominican republic
PA and Sky are both claiming it was taking off, not inbound, and that ‘reports’ (without saying who from) claim engine failure as a cause. Dow Jones has dropped 200 points and all airports in New York are closed.
It turns out that it was a300 Airbus headed (outbound) for Santa Domingo (Flight AA507)
Does anyone have acess to visuals on this? How bad do the fires look? Have buildings actually been leveled? Radio just said this is a highly residential area, and NYC is good for packing maximum occupancy into minimum space. Those poor people…it’s just too sad, too soon.
Even in the best case scenario (empty plane, total accident, unoccupied buildings hit) I still feel absolutely horrible for the people who heard about this and wanted to just vomit because it was too close to home again. I mean, I felt that way, and I wasn’t particularly closely affected by 9/11. I mean, I was, but not like the families of those who died, or who live in NY or DC. I just feel terrible for anyone who heard the news and for a few seconds died all over again.
Just what American Airlines needs, too.

A huge pall of smoke is drifting slowly accross the city.
Its not as large as what we have seen before but there is no doubting that htis was a significant crash.
My mother just called me to see if I’m ok. She’s almost crying! I don’t even know what to say. I tried to sound cheery and I told her it was probably “Just a regular crash,” not that that helps the families and the victims, but you know what I mean.
Glad you guys are on and posting. It’s hard to get onto most sites here, as I mentioned, so seeing your updates helps.
This is awful. I have the same nauseous feeling I had 09/11. I’m hearing (and reading) lots of different info. One source says the plane was taking off from JFK and another says it was preparing to land at JFK.
Please keep the info coming. All the news sites are jammed!

The plane left from Logan and stopped and JFK and was leaving for S.Domingo when the crash occured.

Pretty definitely outbound. AA flight 587 to Santa Domingo is what they’re saying right now. Eyewitness says saw explosion/flash at the wing body join. No reports yet as to distress signal, no USAF jets in area to witness.
