Ok, mainly because I have a teenaged daughter, I set up a Myspace account. For whatever reason, I get a lot of friend requests from very strange people. Honestly, I wonder what the heck they are searching for when they find me…but, ok, whatever.
Due to some odd events recently in my life, I put one of those trackers on my myspace. It really only tracks the IP address, which is pretty funny because it will show me hitting my own profile when it is really my husband or my daughter doing so (obviously, they have the same IP address as I do), but it can be very interesting to see how often the same person is hitting my profile. Especially weirdos who are not on my friends’ list. Oh, I should mention that anyone else who is registered with this particular tracker is tracked (kind of – see the IP address issue) or anyone who has been identified by someone registered with the tracker. Hopefully that makes sense.
I have recently noticed that there are 2 (very weird) people who keep hitting my profile. They both have some very strange paranoid rantings about “the blonde mafia” and how they are going to “get” the members of said “blonde mafia.” :dubious: It is a man and his “soon-to-be wife.” Now, I think it is really odd that these people hit my profile at least 3 times/day, but ok, whatever that’s the intarwebs. Recently, I had a 17 year old hit my page about 10 times in one day – not too unusual, considering I had just put up some very…sexy pictures – I went to his profile to see if maybe it was someone we knew (again, I point out that I have a teenaged daughter) and noticed something very strange. One of his top 8 friends’ display name was “Samantha is in the Blonde Mafia”
WTF is the “blonde mafia”? How did I make it to 35 and not have a clue what this is? I should point out that the profiles indicate that these people live in different states (the paranoid guy is in KY, his paranoid “soon-to-be wife” is in IN, the 17 year old boy is in FL and yes, I went to Samantha’s profile and she is in CA). Really, I know this is kind of odd that I would look at this stuff – but let me tell you, I get super bored at work!
So, anyone else heard of this “blonde mafia”? Anyone else have a myspace tracker and find it odd who visits their page and when?
Thanks. I don’t know how I managed to make it this long not ever having heard this term. It is really weird and creepy that these people seem to like visiting my profile so much (especially since I am most definitely not blonde!), but…weirdos will be weirdos…
I’m more interested in the tracker. Is this a Myspace only thing? I have a Facebook account (I’ve only been on it about twice in the last year since I graduated college) can I use a tracker that shows who’s been looking at my profile?
I am sure the code would work for Facebook, too. It’s just html, after all. It’s not that great, like I said, it only tracks the IP address. But it is fun to see when you’re bored at work. Also comes in handy if you happen to think you have a psycho cyber-stalking you. Meh – the one I use is SafeProfile if you want to check it out.
I’m not understanding this. You have a MySpace because you have a teenage daughter and you put up sexy pictures of yourself on it? Is it supposed to be your MySpace or your daughters MySpace? Why are you tracking 17 year old kids that visit your MySpace? For your daughter? Do you share the same page?
Why don’t you set up a MySpace page for your daughter and just monitor it? I’m confused by this whole thing.
Yes, you are misunderstanding. *I *have a myspace account so as to be able to access my daughter’s blogs/pictures/bulletins/friends/etc. it’s called active parenting – knowing what your child is up to and with whom.
Being as how it is my myspace and not my daughter’s I put sexy pictures on it now and then. Sue me, I am proud of the way I look. As for tracking the 17 year old boys – let me re-iterate for you: there was one 17 year old boy who hit my page ten times in one day. Since one cannot access a person’s pictures unless one is on the other’s friends’ list, I found it odd – and went to the boy’s profile to see if he was possibly one of my daughter’s friends or someone we knew somehow – I did not know how old he was until I went to his profile.
Please let me know if you are still confused. I can imagine how it might be a bit confusing for you.
Gotcha. I didn’t realize you couldn’t access someone account unless you had one. That makes sense. Thanks! You can tell I know nothing about it. I wonder if my sister knows this. I hope so, both her kids have talked about MySpace.
**Caridwen[/ b], by default everyone can see everything you put on your account, but you can choose to make part/all of it private. AFAIK there’s no option to close it off to people without an account, but you can close it off to everyone except the people on your “Friends” list, and you can close off parts of it (certain blogs, etc.) to everyone except a select few of your “Friends” if you so desire.
Ya know what’s funny? My daughter and I really are best friends, aside from having that mother-daughter thing. When I say no, she knows I mean it – I would never take her out drinking (until she is 21, then I probably will at least once) or anything like that, but we just genuinely get along. I know it’s unusual, trust me – I know more about her friends and their lives than any of their parents. I took one of those “how well do you know me” quizzes one of her friends posted and scored higher than the girl’s twin sister. How funny is that?
On to the cite. None of the pictures are pornographic, just sexy. It was a little fun my husband and I had one day. Yeh, he has some on his myspace profile, too.
It didn’t crash for me, although the color scheme renders the text almost impossible to read. (A perplexingly common feature of MySpace pages, it seems.)
Hehe…I actually posted a thread about this when it happened. I bashed my face on the security fence at a Sevendust concert a while back. I was (quite) intoxicated. It’s fine now and only barely noticeable in person – fading quite nicely. I am very lucky having great skin that scars well. LOL!
And thanks by the way
As for the others having trouble crashing – I think Myspace has been jacked in general lately – I have been having a lot of problems. It may just be your browsers, too, I donno. Sorry about the colour scheme – I understand, being scitopic, some colour schemes really hurt my head. There’s really nothing much worth reading on my myspace, but you can always just highlight the text to make it easier to read.
