WW2 Japanese aircraft in German svc.

During WW2 did the Germans ever bring any Japanese aircraft back to Germany for testing and evaluation for possible use? Any Japanese Zero fighters with German insignia on it?

I know the Japanese tested German Me-109’s (they had five) and they actually used the Italian Fiat B.R. 20 heavy bomber. There were other types of aircraft I know they used, including a copy of the American C-47.

Slight hijack…

Did the F4U Corsair ever see action in the ETO? If so, against what? When? Who won?

Since the F4U was basically a Marine aircraft I don’t think it ever flew in Europe.

Trivia question.

What was the last war the F4U flew in?

The last one I know about is the (1969?) Honduras-Salvador Soccer War.

I believe at least one aerial victory was scored.

Ding Ding Ding!

Give the man a prize.

Very well done.

Reeder, in about 1981 I read the account, in one of the flying magazines, of the collectors’ expedition that went down to Central America to take delivery of four F4Us that were then being retired.

They had to fly them up to Houston, Texas, and one started to crap out on the way. So they had to land, as a formation of Honduran military aircraft (markings still intact), and without any forenotice, at a Mexican airport. Much consternation was stirred amongst Mexican authorities by this foreign invasion force.

Anyway, that’s how I happened to remember that tidbit.

I think that Britain’s Royal Navy flew them in the ETO and I think they saw combat there too.
