Hi Hardy
“O.K., so what’s the deal???” is the question I get from my old roommate. As he knows I look stuff p on the 'net. he naturally asks me. I try a status update at a few Goldberg sites, but the only things I get are very hush-hush. Almost… TOO quiet. That, and the most recent crap I can dig p is from like, October.
Does anyone know what’s the deal with Goldberg now and his coming back or whatnot. (Last I heard his contract was still under the thumb of Turner, who wouldn’t release).
broccoli!!!
Not that this will answer your question, but I think he went off to pursue a movie career which quickly ended up bombing. I think he had some knee problems as well. I’m sure someone will come along and set the record straight.
I saw him last night on Dennis Miller Live and he said something about knee problems then, too.
What’s that? Off the air? How long?
Never mind.
snort and hello to you, broccoli!.
Here’s what I know :
Goldberg has publicly slagged the WWE, as well as Vince McMahon and Triple H, repeatedly. He has also been quoted as saying he’s not that enthused about the sport or a comeback.
However, if the ratings for WWE television product keeps dropping, it’s not unlikely Vince will get the checkbook and make him an offer. A lot of fans, casual as well as hardcore, would tune in. Keep in mind though, Vince holds grudges. Ask Hulk Hogan
Personally, I never got into the guy. Sloppy and a limited moveset, undefeated against jobbers, bad on the mike. Good entrance though.
Here’s the latest Goldberg news:
AOL-Time Warner paid out the remaining portion of Goldberg’s contract last year. Since then, the bald headed one has been working sporadic matches in Japan.
Recently there have been talks between Goldberg and Vince Mcmahon. The two have been negotiating a short term deal where Goldberg would work two major matches against the Rock at Wrestlemania and Backlash. Each wrestler would receive one win over the other. The Mcmahon clan feels that with the ratings slumping and interest in their product waning the company could use a big Goldbergian jolt. I have not heard any dollar figures but I estimate the deal would be in the millions.
If a deal is met, expect a formal announcement within the next 4-6 weeks.
As a former WCW fan, and current WWE watcher, I just have to say that bringing Goldberg in is a bad idea. He’s just not really that interesting or talented. His entire career is built on a demand that the WCW Power Plant produce a viable main-event wrestler. Ergo, the Goldberg “shove” began. (It’s not a push, it’s a shove.)
What did that get anyone? WCW got perhaps an extra six months before the bottom dropped out, while Bret Hart got his career ended because of how sloppy and reckless ol’ Bill is in the ring.
Vince should realize that this “hot-shot” booking to get a big ratings and buyrate pop is not doing anything to fix the bigger problems the WWE has (lack of quality main-eventers, ridiculous storylines that drive viewers away, HHH-mania running wild backstage, the Billion Dollar Princess’s inability to write anything worth watching.)
Pfft, if they cancel another RVD push for Mr Two Moves, I’ll be quite cross.
[sub]Hey buffybeast, do you post at the Smarks boards?[/sub]
I’d rather see Mr Two Moves in the Main Event than I would the Stoned Ballerina.
Or better yet, keep the belt on Angle for the next decade while having him defend it against Benoit, Eddy, Lesnar, and Chavo.
Has there ever been another example where someone grinds a competetor into the ground, and then turns the reins of the successful business over to the people they just beat? I know the Romans liked to take on barbarian armies en masse as things went along, but this is ridiculous.
