WWF No Mercy (SPOILERS)

If there is one thing I can say about WWF No Mercy, was that it definatly had a start, a middle, and an end. Stories were ended, some will continue, and others are starting. I figured others will put up their views so I would only do the three matches I liked the best.

Hardy Boyz vs. The Hurricane and Lance Storm
WCW Tag Championship

A great match from start to finish. The Hardy’s have had some great matches (both single, and tag) against Hurricane and Storm. I am still amazed at how the Hardy’s team up. I don’t think I have seen a more effective team in a long time. It was a smooth match with only a couple of errors (both made by Storm). The Hardy’s held on to their titles after 14 minutes.

I would like to say that I am really getting tired of Hurricane and gag Mighty Molly. This stuff is great for about two months, but it gets really old.

Edge vs. Christian
Intercontiental Championship

Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow. This was the match that stole the show. E&C are known well for their outstanding work in Ladder matches, but this was the cream of the crop.

Christian really took the brunt of the work in this. He took a lot of hits, including a one man “Con-chair-to” on top of two 15 foot ladders. This match mad No Mercy for me.

The Rock vs. Chris Jericho
WCW Heavyweight Title

This was Y2J’s best match to date, IMHO. After being in the old school run WCW from 95-99, he never got a shot (not even a title shot) at the WCW title, and in his two years with the WWF he has never had a shot at the WWF Championship. Tonight he did, and he wasn’t going down easy.

They had a fabulous match, but when Steph “big phony funbags” McMahon tried to interfere in the match by hitting Y2J with a chair he took advantage by DDTing Rock into the chair. 1-2-3, and Y2J finally had won the Big One.

After the match the Rock stood behind Y2J with the chair, and presented it to him. I thought that was pretty classy of Rock. The WCW title does have the stain of that chair on it, but that should be cleared up soon. I don’t think Y2J can handle the pressure of Shane, Steph and Regal making crazy matches for him.

Might see some good ones though.

The other matches on the card were good, the top one being the WWF Championship Triple Threat No DQ match between RVD, Stone Cold and Angle. Even though SCSA won, it was nice to see Vince kick the crap outa Shane. Sometimes you just have to give a beatdown, and he did it.

The Lingerie Match was stupid, but it was supposed to be. Stacy and Torrie looked the bomb, but I thought Torrie was better because she had a silk mens button up and stockings. I love button ups and stockings. Mmmmmm…

I had no real emotional involvment in the Undertaker/Booker T or Kane/Test matchups. They sucked. Same for the Dudleyz and Big Show/Tajiri. Big Show needs to get back with One Billy Gun and fast.

I had to work, so I missed the PPV, but I followed the results online. The ladder match and the Rock / Jericho match sound like classics. It was nice to see Y2J finally break through the supposed glass ceiling in the WWF.

Why couldn’t have RVD won the belt? I’m tired of seeing Austin with it.

And where’s Triple H?

hardygrrl, RVD can’t win the belt just yet (or if he did it would have to be one of those very short title reigns). Too many of the other WWF guys who have been there longer and paid their dues in the company would have a fit. Sure he paid his dues with ECW but that won’t make any difference to the other guys and it shouldn’t. But I am sure he will get a title win fairly soon.

You can check HHH’s progress here http://www.wwfhhh.com/

The injury he had takes time to heal but there is little doubt he will be back from that sooner than most would. I just wonder if he will be a heel or a face. The rumors so far seem to lean toward a face turn.

HHH should be back late November/early December. A face turn is rumoured, coupled possibly with Jerico’s heel turn.
I want Benoit back myself.

No Mercy was good (as long as RVD does NOT have major title). It is about time Vince came back. The one thing that bugged me the most was Paul Heyman. Two or Three times he actually said “Notice how he (wrestler about to be pinned) gets his shoulder off the mat so the referee can see him and stop the count”. Well no shit, saying it once was dumb enough but he kept saying it over and over.

Actually, Jericho did get a shot at the title from Triple H on an episode of Raw. He even won the match, but Trips made Y2J give the title back because he thought Earl Hebner made a fast count.

Speaking of The Game, any word yet on when he’s supposed to be back and who he’ll be affiliated with?

Whoops. Disregard that last part. Just caught sight of Ayesha’s post. Sorry.

WWF Championship
Stone Cold Steve Austin def. Rob Van Dam & Kurt Angle

A very short main event - 15 minutes or so is standard fare on Raw these days. Match was of low quality, with the typical McMahon style of inserting himself into every main event angle.

WCW Championship
Chris Jericho def. The Rock

Beautifully worked from start to finish. Jericho and the Rock feel like they have been feuding forever, when its only been a matter of weeks. Hopefully Jericho will complete his heel turn and continue with the Rock into Survivor Series.

Singles Match
Undertaker def. Booker T

Ugh. Who even cares about the Undertaker any more? I refuse to watch his matches on principle now.

WWF Tag Team Championship
Dudley Boyz def. Big Show & Tajiri

The Big Guy / Little Guy comedy combos never go over well, so I have no idea why Vince is trying it again. There was only ever going to be one outcome, and unfortunately it wasn’t quick.

**WWF Intercontinental Championship
Edge def. Christian **

A ladder match? How novel. Or not. The monthly “big gimmick match” on PPV is getting very overplayed, since there have been at least 5 or so ladder matches this year alone. Still a solid match, but will be rated a lot lower than other ladder matches. Reusing spots from those matches doesn’t help either.

**Women’s Lingerie Match
Torrie Wilson def. Stacy Keibler **

Admittedly fine eye candy, but if this is how to attract the teenage demographic, so be it…

Singles Match
Test def. Kane

A surprisingly good match. I swear JR was about to get up and hit Nick Patrick at one point. It’s good that Test went over, and hopefully can be main eventing soon.

**WCW Tag Team Championship
Hardy Boyz def. The Hurricane & Lance Storm **

Next. Do the Hardyz ever win without Lita running in?

Overall I was expecting little apart from Rock v Jericho, and that was what I got… 4/10 overall…
