WWW usernames/passwords, can I delete 'em from my hard drive?

I hope this makes sense: Some websites have usernames and passwords to gain access, some don’t. Of those that do, sometimes when I start typing the username it automatically pops up and fills in the name and password. On other sites I have to type it in each time.

Where can I go on my computer (Windows subdirectory?) to delete the ones that automatically fill in (assuming the username/password is just sitting there somewhere on my hard drive). I would prefer typing them in each time as long as I know they’re gone when I’m done with the computer and no one else could possibly get access to them. I know on new ones there is the option to save the password, so I’m hoping there is an option to delete them as well. Clearing out Temorary files, Cookies and so on doesn’t clear out the usernames/ passwords.

Thanks in advance

Nevermind, I just figured it out.

D’Oh! Why didn’t I look there before? (Uhmm, that’s a rhetorical question, so I don’t expect any smart-ass responses!)

If you’re really worried about security, you may want to see if you have any username.PWL files in the Windows directory. I’ve seen hacker tools that can decode these and give you host, userid and password. Typically Windows creates this file if you ever have the “save passwords” box checked. Not sure if it stores the Explorer passwords though.

Deleting the right PWL file will delete the saved passwords. Deleting the wrong one might screw up some of your installed programs. Let the deleter beware… (Caveat Deletor?)
