Wypipo?

The way you employ that word seems rather equivalent to how Americans would understand addressing someone as “massa”. I doubt anyone would doubt your “sarcastic” intent if you just went with that in the future.

By your quote, supplied in the op, and by context, it is what your intended meaning is.

Yeah, fair enough. Wypipo may be deeply unserious IMO, but white fragility syndrome is a killer.

Is it also synonymous with “baby”? And “stupid”? And “big”? And “over-privileged”? All at the same time? How does that work?

Oh please. This white night nonsense is the most insidious type of bigotry around these days. I helps nothing or no one.

I don’t think I’m going to be using much sarcasm (or even “sarcasm”) in GD threads about racism anymore. The mods don’t seem to like it

I think it’s fair to say it’s an attempt to be the equivalent of calling somebody a nigger. It’s an insult that is directed at an entire race.

If wypipo isn’t as offensive as nigger that’s due to the realities in the difference between being black and white in America.

Such hatred for Baryshnikov! Or … was it Hines?

Don’t be so harsh on yourself!

No, it really, *really *isn’t.

I think I’ll make a point to post in every thread on race relations just to hear your witty retorts.

Or they get annoyed at how you’re not responding to verbal insults so they up the ante by throwing rocks at you or hitting you with clubs. There are plenty of times when a racial confrontation that started out as insults escalated into violence and even murder.

As you note, the perq of being white in America is knowing that society is on your side rather than on the side of the people who are insulting you. It’s a lot easier to shrug off an insult when you know it’s very unlikely to go any further.

If a person is a big, stupid, over-privileged, racist baby and is black, is wypipo still an appropriate term to use against them? Or does wypipo only refer to big, stupid, over-privileged, racist babies who are white?

Is their name Omarosa or Ben Carson? Because sure, why not…
but that’s irrelevant - the key word there was “entire”

Agreed. Textbook false equivalence fallacy.

Do you mean “white knight?” Because maybe you’re talking about Dostoevsky’s novel, which led to my high school sweetheart calling herself a “strange fish.” But I don’t think that’s relevant.

I think you’re trying to say that I’m white knighting. Which I’m not; I also find white fragility syndrome incredibly irritating.

The idea that a white person objecting to racism is problematic is an old idea. It used to be called being a race traitor, or being a n-lover. It’s not an idea I have much patience with.

Nor have I much patience with the idea that being white and objecting to racism is worse than, say, locking brown kids up in kennels. But at this point we may be getting into the weeds :).

I have no problem with being white and objecting to racism. On the contrary I think it is a good thing. Contrary to that though, I think what you are promoting is a bad thing. I don’t like it. Mostly what it is to me is using race relations as a pawn to feel superior to lower class white people. The real reason you don’t care about whether black use a slur against white people is that you have never been in a situation, or are not often in situations where you are on an equal footing with minorities. Your boss isn’t black, your neighbors aren’t black, your friends aren’t black, your enemies aren’t black. To you, really, black people are just this poor disadvantaged group that you need to protect from bad stupid white people - you may have empathy for them, but really, in your mind, they are not equal.

And I can tell you that black people I have known do not condone this sort of racism or think it is OK. In fact, one time someone called me a slur and all the people around strongly condemned it to the point that the guy felt a little ashamed.

You see, most good people just want to get along and don’t care for this nonsense, but I find it hard to believe that people like you care as much about getting along as you do about feeling morally superior.

Hines was the black knight.

Moderator Note

This is starting to turn into a general discussion of race issues and racism, which is not an appropriate discussion for ATMB except as it pertains to the rules and the enforcement of said rules.

Let’s try to keep this discussion focused on what is and isn’t allowed here, or perhaps what should and shouldn’t be allowed, and take the more generalized discussion of racism to a more appropriate forum.

Wypipo is just a baby-talk version of white people. So it’s literally an insult directed against all white people.

Even if you’re directing it at Omarosa Manigault or Ben Carson. Insulting a black person by telling them they’re acting like a white person is an insult to that individual and to white people in general. It’s no different than insulting a white individual by telling them they’re acting like a black person or insulting a straight individual by telling them they’re acting like a homosexual. The insult to the individual is you’re telling them they’re acting like a member of an inferior group. And the fact that you feel the group is inferior is an insult to the entire group.

Huh. Well, my enemies aren’t black, so you’ve got that part right.
