X-Men Origins: Wolverine leak

As you may or may not know a rough workprint of the upcoming Wolverine movie was leaked to the internet a few days ago. A lot of the effects are incomplete and apparently several million dollars have since been spent on reshoots to make some big changes to the story. We can’t discuss how to procure of copy of the film, but we are permitted to discuss its content.

Personally, I thought it wasn’t half bad. Not stellar, but certainly better than X3. Probably, closer to X2 in quality. Has anyone else seen it? What did you think?

I saw it and quite enjoyed it. I thought the unfinished look was intriguing. It really peaked my interest to see the movie in the theatre with the fully finished effects.

I saw an extended preview for it the other day where he ran into “the Blob” and bounced off of him with a “booooiiinnnngg!!” sound effect.
Please tell me they did not have that in the movie.

I’m waiting for the final version on the big screen. Yeah, it may suck and I may be kissing my money goodbye… but I still prefer to see things like this on the big screen whenever I can.

Is it this one?

I’m with Lightnin’. I’m not interested in seeing an unfinished version on the small screen, even if for free.

I don’t understand the motivation for people to actively go out and spoil things for themselves. I wouldn’t read a spoiler filled thread on the film, why would I watch an unfinished version? I frequently wonder what it is about some peoples personalities that makes them see the appeal of this.

It’s not like I read the last page of War and Peace first. It’s a comic book movie. Personally, I think it was very interesting to see what a film still in progress looks like, and I’m curious to see what changes will be made in the final product.

Yeah, I don’t think you are supposed to link to illegal material on the Dope.
Anyway, I did see it myself and liked it enough that it actually makes me want to see it in the theater.

Folks, this movie is better than you would expect. I know; I’m surprised, too.

Because not everyone feels that spoilers actually spoil anything. They don’t need to be surprised by the plot to be entertained by it.

I thought this thread was going to be about Roger Friedman getting fired for reviewing the film.

Yeah, that’s smart. Encourage people to pirate a movie made by your employer. And do it in print.

I saw the prerelease with some of the FX missing. I liked it a lot. It’s as good if not better than the X-Men series. My only problem was that cyclops seemed to just be there to relate the movie (for some reason) to the trilogy.

I didn’t spoil it for me. I saw the whole thing. The only thing missing were a few textures on some FX, that’s it. I’ll see it again in theaters because its a good movie not because I would have missed something.

Well, it’s not that unfinished. Yeah, if the film was poorly edited and didn’t have the FX mainly done or the music filled it, it would be distracting.

This movie was about 90-95% done, so it’s really more like seeing it early than spoiling ourselves.

Like I said, it actually makes me want to see it more, now.

In this case, Intergalactic Gladiator linked to a parody, not to a site where Dopers can illegally download the movie. I have no problem with it.

Normally, I agree with you on the subject of spoilers. The numerous ‘better than I expected’ type of comments that are being made make me think that for at least some people, this has encouraged them to see a movie they were planning on skipping. So, I don’t know that it qualifies as actively seeking out spoilers.

I wouldn’t have gone to see this in the cinema. Now I probably will just to see the final product.

I really enjoyed the movie. I found the unfinished FX very interesting to look at as I saw a part of the process that you rarely see in that context. Normally you see background stuff in the extras but that is still a produced and directed loook at the making of the movie. This was different and IMO it added to my enjoyment.

As to the actual movie, it was a lot better than I was expecting. Darker and more violent and a very good intro to the character of Wolverine. The only negative was the shoehorning of Cyclops into the movie for no reason other than to link it to the main story.

Woah there, you make it sound like it’s some severe character flaw, when it’s just a little curiosity. The only way to remain ‘unspoiled’ forever is to not see the film, and I agree with those that found it rather intriguing to watch an almost finished version – it opened my eyes about how some shots are done, what FX is added later, the whole process of going from shots filmed on a set to the polished, coherent world of the end product. Plus, there’s likely to be at least some changes in editing, possibly even story-altering, so picking that out makes for an additional incentive to watch it on the big screen.

Ah, my mistake for assuming that was a stream of the actual film.

Apologies all around!

According to at least one source that I read, the leaked workprint did not have any of the extensive reshoots and additional scenes that were added late; the theatrical version apparently is something like over 20 minutes longer than this version of the workprint. So it’s entirely possible that major plot points will be changed or dropped, for example.
