Me and my mate just got booted from a Halo game and have been unable to get another game. Bungie.net doesn’t seem to dealing with accounts correctly either. Anybody else seeing this or is it just a local(ish) problem?

If you check your messages on your Live account, you’ll probably find that they notified you about it being down for maintenance for a few hours.
Good thing Xbox Live wasn’t free. Then it would never work.
How much is Xbox Live anyway? I’ve just been looking all over Microsoft’s Live site and they don’t seem to want to let me in on the secret.
It depends on how many gaming trivia questions you can answer on the purchase screen. There are 10 and if you get all 10 right you get 50% off. If you get 5 or more wrong you will be charged an extra 5%.

Nope, it’s $50 a year. Unless you buy an Xbox Live 13 Month Subscription Card from a store that has a sale. Then it can be dirt cheap.
