Xbox vs switch?

I want to buy a gaming console so I can play games with my 8 year old son. Should I get the Xbox or the switch?

I went with Xbox

Xbox pass seems like a waste of time. Am I wrong?

If you’d like to take it out of the house, the Switch is the way to go. My daughter, who is far more attuned to these things, says that Nintendo has a reputation for having more family-friendly games. Full disclosure: we have two Switches in the household because she got her dad hooked on the Legend of Zelda games.

The last consoles I bought was a Super-Nintendo and a Sega Genesis.

So I would go with the Switch so i could play the latest versions of the Mario and Zelda games I grew up playing,

My now adult children (three men and a woman) are all Switch people, and one brought theirs along on our family gathering vacation at my MIL’s beach house. I may be speaking of ignorance regarding XBox but Switch being more “family friendly” seems to not quite capture it. To my read it is like saying it’s for kids and G rated with all the pablum that such implies, but that is not the case. My impression of XBox is an over-representation of “let’s kill again and again” just with different skins and varying degrees of realism. And a few sports games. Switch games strike me as more creative. Less violence to be sure but more exploration and more … thought? Maybe more evocative? Thought not like pure intellectual thought but thoughtfulness? I didn’t play but I appreciated what was on the screen. And some of the games’ themes seemed like they’d fly past young ones heads.

But again from a limited outsider to gaming POV.

Xbox Game Pass is widely considered to be one of the best deals in gaming. Over 400 games available for $30 a month or whatever it’s subbing for these days. And not just musty old games but often Day One release like Starfield.

I think I’m paying closer to $15 for the full package, whatever they’re calling it now…unluss’un they raised it in the past few months or so. I haven’t been paying too much attention.

Yeah, plus I think there’s different tiers for Xbox or Xbox plus PC. Anyway, roundly considered to be a great deal.
