What a star you are  Cheers Justin,

Thank you willthekittensurvive? I shall have a peek and see where I get to.

Take care

I don’t quite agree with Robin Goodfellow re: Forza 2. I honestly didn’t find a need to tweak all the little things in my car. Maybe if you went online, I could see needing that expertize, but as for just playing single player or against an equally ignorant (in terms of cars) friend, it’s not necessary. It’s a much more “realistic” game than something like Pure or Project Gotham Racing, which are much more arcade style.

As for Skate, they just came out with Skate 2. I loved the first one, so I ordered (I live in Japan) the second one, though I’ve not had a chance to sit down and play it yet. I’ve heard it’s very much the same but with a few improvements. It’s a VERY different game than the Tony Hawk series, which I found was getting quite stale. The learning curve in Skate is pretty rough, but it’s a great game, the control scheme is very original, and you can do a lot of really neat things. I fell in love with the game pretty quickly.

Now, in terms of RPGs and Puzzle games, Portal is going to be the best puzzle game out there. I’ve not played the x360 version but I’m sure it’s the same as the PC. It’s a first person perspective, but don’t let it scare you off, there’s no shooting of enemies or anything, just crazy puzzles and perspective shifts that make your move your brain in weird ways. It’s a GREAT game. Easily one of the best games ever, though a bit short.

I’m currently playing through Tales of Vesperia right now, which requires a little work with the control but not very much. It’s pretty easy, and as was mentioned before it can be played co-op (two people co-operatively) so that might be good for you two.

Fallout 3 is also a great game, but often requires a bit of Shooting prowess. You can use the VATS (pauses the game and lets you select where you want to fire, then does it all automatically) but if you run out of action points you have to let them recharge, and in the mean time you might have to do some manual aim-and-fire. It’s a great game, but maybe look into it before you purchase if you generally shy away from shooting things.

Fable 2, as was mentioned, is another great RPG. requires a little skill with the controller, but really not much. Basically you have one button for sword attack, one for magic attack, and one for ranged attack (gun or bow) and unlimited ammo for all. The combat is very easy, and the social aspects of the game (getting married, buying/selling property, etc) are rather involved. It’s very fun, and I’d definitely recommend it even to a first-time gamer.

The lego series (star wars, batman, indiana jones) can also be a lot of fun, and are very easy and co-op as well.

Mass Effect, while a brilliant game, requires some skill with taking cover and firing at enemies, so I don’t know that I could recommend it. You can get Knights of the Old Republic, Bioware’s previous game, off Xbox Live I think (it was an original Xbox game) and that might be more up your alley as the combat doesn’t require precision or anything. Great story in those games, too. If you think you’re up for a bit of combat, though, Mass Effect is awesome.

I could go on, but I think that’s enough for now. I love my xbox 360 :stuck_out_tongue:

I have already played and finished Bioshock. Loved it. I have dreams that I’m in Rapture now…

Just got Call of Duty 2, and I like it OK. Downloaded the demo of Resident Evil 5 and frankly, I’m not quite good enough to play it well. The weapon switch/reload regime from Bioshock made so much more sense to me than on RE5.

I can’t play Grand Theft Auto IV at all. Cannot control the damn car. Will I figure it out, or are driving games just not for me?

I plan to get Oblivion sometime. Everyone says it’s right up my alley.

Thought you didn’t like shooters? Bioshock was a fantastic game, though in essence it was just System Shock 3. Still, great game.

If Oblivion is right up your alley than definitely check out Fallout. Same game engine, same developers, but completely different setting.

GTA4 I thought was a terrible game. The driving in the game is just whacky, oddly weighted, and just bad. I had absolutely no fun playing that game at all, so don’t let it be indicitive of anything.

Resident Evil games are reknowned for their bad control schemes

You know what? I think I was wrong. I’m actually pretty good at them, considering my utter n00bness. Call of Duty is a bit too much straightforward SHOOT NAZIS for me. I liked the atmosphere of Bioshock a lot.

yea, I know what you mean. I liked Call of Duty 4 a lot, the story was pretty damn good, and there were some unexpected events. It also wasn’t a “shoot nazis” game (I got REAL tired of WWII shooters like 10 years ago and they’re still pumping 'em out) it takes place in modern day, in an unnamed middle eastern country.

Anyway, if you don’t mind shooting a bit, then I’d DEFINITELY recommend Mass Effect, it’s a fantastic RPG, and not just because, if you play your cards right, you can have lesbian sex with an alien  (it’s like a pg-13 video, but the press made this HUGE deal over the whole thing, making up all sorts of crap saying you can define breast size and choose sexual positions and that the whole game was a sex simulator and shit, whereas the actual sex scene shows no more than they’d show on TV, is completely optional as part of the love story, and lasts maybe 10 seconds out of a 15-20 hour game.) Mass Effect has a great story, too, if not quite as atmospheric as Bioshock or Fallout 3

Not to mention probably the most fleshed out universe of any game I’ve ever played. Yes, I read every single data file on the races, planets, weapons, ships, and other assorted technology. The shear volume of background in that game was stunning. They put a lot of work into making a coherent and well-defined universe.

Best game review ever

Bolding mine

hahahahaha…my god. That review is legendary

yea, I really do love that review. It really does a good job of pointing out just how ignorant some of these people are, where they will write a scathing protest of something based soley on rumors and conjecture without having actually having any basis or even an idea of what they’re talking about

By the way, Rubystreak, have you followed any recommendations? Do you like them? I get curious to see if people actually like games that are solicited to them, especially from the Dope.

Having skimmed this thread I didn’t see any mention of Geometry Wars. I got my Xbox when they were released and that game is still my favorite. Such simple game play, yet so damn addicting.

Once you hit 50,000 points, you’ll want 100k. Then 200, then 500, then a million, and then it never ends!!! I’m at 2.3 million now and that seems to be my wall, though I haven’t played in ages.

Anyway, get the demo from the XBLA. It’s great!

Rubystreak asked for no shooting games. But I agree with you, Geometry Wars is an amazing amazing game.

I changed my mind. I like shooting games, if they’re cool like Bioshock. I’m not loving Call of Duty 2, because there’s a lot of standing around in the snow, shooting Nazis that are far away (so far).

We don’t have a lot of money to buy games. My husband liked Burnout: Revenge, and got it cheap, as well as Forza, which he was not as into because it’s “too realistic,” whatever that means. We rented Grand Theft Auto 4. He liked it, I hated it. I loved Bioshock, am meh on Call of Duty 2. Played Resident Evil 5 demo, found that the weapon interface is confusing and the game it a little too hard for me, at my current level of skill. That’s all I’ve got so far. I plan on getting Mass Effect if I can get it cheap, and to rent Oblivion and Fable 2.

Geometry Wars isn’t a shooter in the same sense of the games you mentioned. Think Astroids on acid and lots of cocaine.

You control a little ship around a rectangular playing area shooting, well, shapes that spawn more and more as you progress. The playing area never changes, but the shapes they throw at you get crazier and crazier as you go.

You drive the ship with your left stick and fire with the right. That is, your ships forward direction and its firing direction are completely independent of one another. You also have bombs that are are activated with the triggers (or bumpers if you wish) that clear the screen but you get no points for any shapes killed that way.

I think it’d be a great game to help master the left and right analog sticks which will help with the shooters you mentioned.

Can you tell I’m a bit of a Geometry Wars evangelist? So what are you waiting for? Get the trial version from the Xbox Live Arcade (you only get 4 minutes of play until you have to restart with the demo, but at first you’ll lose all 3 lives well before that anyway) and come back and let me know just how awesome you think it is!!

Jeff

Lumines, originally a PSP game, has been ported over and is available on Live. It’s a great Tetris-esque puzzle game with really interesting music.

Castle Crashers, also on Live Arcade, is a fun little beat-em-up with a sense of humor.

After checking out www.2old2play.com I found much interesting stuff (thanks for the recommendation willthekittensurvive?)

I have also had another crack at James Bond Quantum of Solace and am actually making progress now. Tomb Raider Underworld, not so much…

Some questions, is Fable 1 generally available and can you play it on the 360? Is it any good?

Cheers

Money is no excuse to not try Geometry Wars though, since the demo is free from XBLA. Sure, it only ha one game mode, and doesn’t save your high scores and whatnot, but you know, it’ll give you a darn fine idea of whether you like the gameplay.
