xkcd and the Straight Dope

It’s almost like today’s cartoon was written about the SDMB. If it isn’t 2/20/08 and you need to tab back, it’s the one titled Duty Calls .

Don’t forget to read the mousover message.

Well done. But we’re not alone - Wikipedia-geeks can get pretty obsessive, can’t they?

I never realized there were mouseover messages. Thanks!

Ooh, now you’ll have to go back through the archive!

Hmm I don’t get the mouseover with Firefox… it’s there with IE though!

I get the mouseover with Firefox, although the longer ones are truncated.

Yeah, I dislike having to open up properties to read the full text but I’m not opening a whole nother browser just for one page.

Ditto. Today will NOT be productive!

Nothing to see here, move along…

Some of them are just like that… a trailed off thought.

Curse you!

Thanks for the tip, gazpacho. I installed Long Titles and it works fine.

And once again the SDMB’s raging ego rages about our reach into the wider world of the Internet.

Yeah, we’re not even on the map.

I like to think of us as Qwghlm.

Hey - it looks like this extension also just happened to quadruple the usefulness of mousing over thread titles on this very Dope. Very nice.

Them, sir, are fighting words!!!111111

cite?

A very funny cartoon! Thanks.

Fighting words meaning you are a Wikipedia geek don’t like the phrasing, or meaning that you see a throw-down between Doper’s & WikiHeads sometime down the road? If the former - trust me; if you read any of my music threads, you know I consider geekery to be Og’s calling - I am a card-carrying guitar geek (amongst other topics) and respect top geekery in all fields.

If the latter - I don’t know; are we looking to rumble with the WikiHeads? I picture a bunch of librarian types going at each other with slide rules and card catalog drawers - not pretty.
