xp and standby, freezes up.

just bought a new computer with xp. i was using the xp “standby” feature a lot. now, after a week, the standby feature completely freezes up the computer.

when you try to take it out of standby the sign in page comes up and is frozen. no alt/ctrl/del, no nothing. have to shut the computer off.

where do i even begin to look for a fix?

I have a feeling that Microsoft released a patch for this - I can’t remember off the top of my head and I’m too lazy to check right now.

Try Windows Update - there might be a patch there.

What? XP? The latest and greatest product ever made by MICROSOFT? Freezes? Um-possible! Say it ain’t so, Joe!

Oh Yeah, it is so… sorry… :smack:

went to windows update and found seven “critical” updates i needed but none had anything to do with my original standby feature problem.

guess i will have to go searching through microsoft’s wonderful home page…which to me is like taking a course in russian.

GET RID OF THE 60 SECOND LIMIT BETWEEN POSTS 15 SEC WILL BE FINE!!!

Standby never worked for me - I don’t even bother.

I just updated my XP laptop yesterday, look under “Windows Updates”, not “Critical Updates” at the Windows Update site and it should be there.

And Musicat, I’m sure every version of every other OS turns out perfect on the first release… That’s all I’ll say unless you care to go to the Pit.

i looked under windows updates and did not see anything i thought was it. does it have some wild, computer driven, description that i would not realize was the standby feature?
