XP Annoyance Wi Fi Area Connection alert

I have a recurring Windows XP annoyance. I have a physical T1 connection to my laptop in my dorm room at college. I am on the outskirts of the Wi-Fi network that the Campus has. Windows will keep on telling me ever so offten, that I am connected to a wireless network. It will do so with a pop up bubble… or ““toast”” right above my system tray. It wont go away unless I click on it, or click to close it.

How can I stop this, short of Clicking the bubble each time… AND / OR telling my laptop to no longer detect wifi networks?

Is taking the network ‘campus’ off my list help? ((Imaginitive name I know))

I guess I could take the campus network off my list… but thats not the answer I am looking for there has to be an easier less obtrusive way to turn off the notifications.

IANACG (computer geek), so wait for someone with more depth to confirm (or disconfirm) this. In my understanding, another way to solve this problem is to disable the wifi modem. This is a system software-hardware switch and doesn’t require tinkering with your registry. You will, however, have to reset the switch if you take the laptop somewhere (say, an internet cafe) where you want to be able use wifi.
