No, I wasn’t making that assertion…not that you (the ‘you’ that are people who are looking at this thing from a partisan/political perspective) of being happy. I’m saying that the countdown to 1000 deaths and the emphasis on its importance is politically motivated and has to do with the election…and it HAS been pretty ‘breathless’, as I’ve heard multiple folks (on this board, on other boards and in the news) counting down (or up I suppose) to 1000 deaths as if this is some kind of watershed or mystical number or something. You tell me where I said that the folks who are looking at it this way (including ‘you’?) are HAPPY about it DtC. If I’m wrong and I’ve been dreaming it, then prove me wrong DtC and I will gladly retract my statement.

Really, I don’t think that your potshot merits more than a “no, fuck you” in response. But it does merit that. You’re going to to bullshit about how you didn’t mean anti-Bush people want the death count to be 1000, go right ahead. Based on your posts I’m sure you don’t actually think so, which doesn’t mean that you didn’t think that what you said in GD meant exactly that.

You seem to have some reading comprehension issues. I AM saying that SOME of the anti-Bush people certainly were counting down/up to 1000 deaths…I’m not attempting to deny that. I explained to DtC that I wasn’t claiming they were HAPPY about it (if you care, I don’t think they were), but that doesn’t mean they weren’t watching the numbers rise with the 1000th death as a watershed of some kind for political reasons…because there certainly WERE people who were doing just that, and some of them were on this board.
Had you asked me in the thread we were in to clairify (since you obviously have issues) and perhaps for a cite I would have been inclined to agree to this and done my best to find one…and too clairify my meaning. At least then you could have actually debated my position instead of the knee jerk one you are trying to force me into.
All you seem to be able to say, in the end, is ‘fuck you’. Foul language is the hallmark of the lesser mind who doesn’t really have anything interesting to say. Using foul language can be an art…but you don’t even have a paint brush. Hopefully the next person to pit me will have a bit more on the ball…and be less dull.

Why not a countdown to 883? or 1023? or 1337?
The 1000 mark is just as arbitrary.

That is an ignorant statement based upon a lack of understanding of semantics, linguistics, language, literature, creativity, psychology and individual differences. It is also in direct contradiction to your next statement:

Your use of the word breathlessly denotes anticipation (according to Webster’s*) and anticipation denotes pleasurable expectation (ibid). So at the very least the connotation of what you were saying was that “people who oppose Bush” have been looking forward to this. You didn’t say “some people who oppose Bush.” If you didn’t mean all, then YOU needed to use a qualifier to make that clear.
Every single death has been as tragic as the 1000th. And some of us watch the count every day. The last number that I heard was 1003. About this time yesterday, I think the number was about 995. And the fighting was fierce. We count because every last one of those lives matters. What we are holding our breaths for is for someone in power to say “That’s ENOUGH!!! That’s TOO MANY!!!”
Anyone who would use that 1,000th death for political reasons – for an opportunity to slam the other party – is disgusting and cold-blooded. That includes you.

It occured to me that you may have misunderstood my OP somewhat if you think so. I did not say “fuck you,” I said “no, fuck you,” which should be understood as

What did he say in GD that you understood as a “fuck you”? I’m just confused. I see where he made the remark that you pitted him for, and I subsequently see your link to the Pit, but what I don’t see is where the two of you addressed each other in GD.
