Yahoo e-mail outage

My e-mail account was one of the ones affected by the recent e-mail outage. I couldn’t access my account for several days. Now that I finally can, I can see that everything but the last 2-3 days’ worth of messages are gone. Just gone. I’ve had this account for at least ten years, subscribed to several active mailing lists, and never cleaned out my account, so I lost thousands if not tens of thousands of messages.

Luckily this is just my junk account, and I really don’t care. But, if it were actually something important, I would be pretty mad right now.

Have any of you experienced something similar?

There was an outage?

Yes, I was affected as well. Two days and then it was in and out and now it finally seems to be stable. It’s my main email account so I’m glad to see that as far as I can tell I have access to all my emails going back to 2002.
The emails during the offline period have slowly trickled in. Are they all there? who knows.

Their communication was abysmal during it. Very sporadic over facebook and twitter. No acknowledgment that it was more than routine maintenance until very late even though it was apparently a severe hardware problem.

Mine didn’t go out, but like a lot of people, I have emails going back years that I have saved.

What’s the best way for a non- techie to save them?

Yipes, this is the first I’ve heard about it. Haven’t had a problem that I’ve noticed. Yet.

Aaaand, there it is. Just got an error message.

Weird - I was getting yahoo emails on my phone, but couldn’t access on my laptop. I thought it was just me, then I heard there had been an outage. I don’t appear to have lost any emails, thank goodness. Right now my Yahoo email on my phone is my main way of communicating with everyone involved with my in-laws’ estate - the three co-trustees, the attorney, the realtor, and the accountant.

Mine still works the same…mostly spam. I never noticed if it went out.

Where are they? In your Yahoo account online?

If so, one easy way to back them up is to install an email client like Thunderbird, download the emails to the client, and then backup your profile on your computer. It’s very easy, and there are a bunch of instructions online for doing it.

Just make sure that, if you still want to have access to all your emails online, in your Yahoo account, that you tell the email client to leave emails on the server when downloading. Otherwise, it will download your emails and then erase them from the server.

They changed security settings on Dec 11th (if yours is related to AT&T). I got multiple emails AND automated phone calls warning me about it.

My email associated with my own domain, which is hosted by Yahoo, was working up to a few hours ago, but then went out, somewhere about 1am London time. I found I could not then get through to my regular Yahoo email account (which I don’t normally use) either.

My domain email seems to be back up now. Not sure about my regular Yahoo mail.

Nope, it’s just regular Yahoo webmail.

This is bad stuff, not accessing your Yahoo Mail. You could miss mails from friends sending you links to totally rad Tripod or Geocities sites.

Thanks. I will try that.
