For a few months, Yahoo! Games had some deals in which you had unlimited free trials with ads. While in the game, but not exactly in the middle of the game (more like at the end of a level), there would be an interruption and ads would pass. A few second later, all would return to normal, nothing missed, everything paused, no loss of data.
I loved it! I didn’t mind the ads and in fact when they came I did productive stuff like get dressed, cook, or go to the bathroom. After I had finished the game, I would delete it from my computer and move to the next one.
Alas, it seems to have ended. Now, if any, Yahoo offers unlimited extended 5 minute plays, which means every 5 mins I have to restart the game. Even though I’m in the middle of a puzzle!!! It randomly saves the game at some point, and it bothers me. Sure, it works with some games, but with others it is really a block.
Is there any other reliable place in the internet that still has that option?
Boxerjam, while I’m not sure if it has puzzles, lets you play through the entire game without interruption. Pogo will interrupt the game and return it to where you were in the game - something like you stated Yahoo did before.
ETA: Turns out Boxerjam does have puzzles. But when I go there I play Napoleon or Strike a Match, mostly. And I’m hooked on Scrabble, Dominoes, and Euchre at Pogo. Still looking for a free site that lets me play pinochle against robots - I don’t like to have to talk to other people when I’m playing a game.
Try iWin.com. Some of the free trials can be buggy (like the game not pausing during a commercial–I usually alt-tab to the Dope for a minute) but it sounds like what you’re asking for.
MostFun Games is very similar to the Yahoo games you are talking about. I’ve had good luck with them. They play an ad before you start, then an ad every couple of levels.
They have Luxor 1-3, Diner Dash 1-2, Cake Mania 1-3, Chicktionary, Tasty Planet, etc.
Big warning, though. It’s impossible to download from them on dial-up. I have to visit my brother to download. Once installed, they play just fine on dial-up.
I’m sorry to hear that Yahoo discontinued their unlimited free trial. I’m hoping the “free with ads” model catches on. I’m cheap.
