Yahoo Mail question

My g/f called to ask how to attach a file in Yahoo Mail. I told her to click on the Attach Files button. Only she says it does not appear on her Compose screen. I checked the site (from my place) and the Help screen says she needs IE 5.x or greater in order to attach messages, and that 6.x seems to work the best. So I had her click on Help on her browser. She’s using IE 6.0. So she’s using an appropriate version of IE, but she does not have an Attach Files button. She’s using some sort of laptop, and I don’t know the version of Windows.

Solution?

Hmmm, never noticed that before, but seldom use Yahoo mail. Sure enough, with Firefox, there is no Attachment tab. I looked in their Help files, and here is what was written:

"As a Yahoo! Mail Plus susbscriber, you can send and receive messages up to 20MB in size.

You can send all types of files as attachments, including word processor or spreadsheet documents, audio files, image files (.bmp, .jpg., .gif, etc.), web pages saved as HTML files, and more."

I assume their “Mail Plus” is an extra cost feature, in which I’m not interested.

You might suggest she use Hotmail, also free, and that definitely does let you attach files or pics.

I use Yahoo Mail on my desktop and laptop, and the “Attach files” button appears right below the Subject line. So her problem’s odd. Have her check out her computer for viruses and spyware, or email Yahoo about her problem.

She has no need to attach a 20mb file. She set up the Yahoo account as her ‘professional’ email address; i.e., one with a username that isn’t ‘cute’. I’d suggest a hotmail account, only I’ve noticed a lot of spam comes from hotmail so I have a poor perception of it. I hate getting mail from hotmail addresses.

I have IE on my PC, only I never use my PC. I should start it up and see if I have the same problem.

Must be you. I checked with both IE 6.0.2800 and Firefox 1.0.7 and both properly display the Attach Files button (it’s a button, not a tab, which may be the source of your confusion) just below the Subject line. Perhaps it’s a javascript issue?

No help, here, but I wanted to say that I’ve used Firefox, Netscape, and IE with Yahoo Mail and have had no problems. That’s really odd. I just sent a file attachment last night, using Firefox, and had no problems.

Gmail, the way to go.

If she’s using the new Yahoo Beta, then “attach” is a button right below the “inbox” tab when you’re looking at the “compose” dialogue.

If she’s using old style Yahoo, “attach” is a button right below the “subject” field on the “compose” page.

Have you seen the screen for yourself and verified that there is no attach button in the appropriate place?

Meant to add: The problem is not that she doesn’t have Yahoo Plus: even without it, you can still attach up to 10 MB.

Just another thought – I use Win 98 (no comments please :D), and sometimes if the machine is low on memory certain buttons like the attach button might not show up. It may be something as simple as rebooting the machine, but, again, just a thought. Good luck!

Big help, Yahoo.
