I’ve got a set of Yak racks from my wrecked (2006) Scion Xa that I’d like to put on my (2004) Honda Accord now. Trouble is, the racks are a modular system, and the towers (risers) for the two cars are different. Does anyone have experience with these racks? More specifically, does anyone know enough about them to tell me if I actually have to buy new towers (risers) to fit my Accord? (Yakima calls them Q Towers) I’d be incredibly annoyed if I had to spend $200 for new towers and the stupid rubber stopper thingies on the bases.
You can get a set of four Q Towers from REI for $138. I don’t know how much they cost at other stores, but you can definitely get them cheaper from eBay.
AFAIK, the “Q Towers” are the same, but it’s the bases that change. Yak calls these “Q Clips” You might be able to just change the clips for about $30. Give 'em a call at 888-925-4621, and they should be able to sort it out.
