Having read way too many of Yankees_1996_Champs’ posts over the past few months, I have to say that I see no way that this is NOT true.
It’s as certain as anything on this planet.
Of course paid and directed foreign trolls post on small-to-medium boards like this one—they have to put in some time proving they can pass for Americans before they’re promoted to programming Facebook and Twitter bots, for heaven’s sake. Russia isn’t the only nation running such programs, certainly—but as many have pointed out, this particular account-writer frequently uses peculiarly Russian syntax.
Of course Russian trolls and bot-programmers have to learn their trades. Of course they don’t start right away in the big leagues. They work their way up via posting on small-to-medium boards–getting the syntax right, the references right, the attitude right. It’s not as though they can pass as Americans without putting in that effort.
I highly doubt he’s a professional troll. He’s not even in the ballpark of getting the talking points right. Talking in a bizarrely dramatic fashion about topics that are essentially boring political analyst stories about this or that political trend among white people, and doesn’t actually give people the pieces to put together into whatever racist dogwhistle he’s trying for. He also doesn’t do what any competent troll would do which is frame the initial argument as something their critics would need to bring evidence to discredit, rather than something he would need to verify.
At the risk of furthering this, and at the risk of seeming like a conspiracy theorist who sees lack of evidence as proof, I think the odd spelling in this post also points to using an online translator:
A truly effective troll who used their own words would not add those tiring-to-type extra two letters to “Democrat”.
I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt (…at first). But he’s clearly not comfortable with English.
And since he claimed he was native speaker (of English AND folk speak!), that throws suspicion on everything else he says. Or maybe I should say “that makes me disbelieve everything else he claims”.
@Yankees_1996_Champs is not a professional troll. He’s a useful idiot doing this in his spare time. He’s a disenchanted Russian ex-pat who never quite got the hang of the English language, never stopped reading Russian controlled propaganda/media, misses the authoritarian style leadership of his former government and sympathizes with the Republican right-wing bigotry which is as familiar to him as Putin’s mother milk.
In summary, he’s sad, pathetic, bigoted, dumb, angry and incapable of seeing the world around him in any other way than the way he’s been brainwashed to see it.
I’m with @QuickSilver. Heck, could be anywhere from East Europe even. My Polish neighbor, who is also a Yankee fan (though the Polish family across the street are Mets fans and should be considered an enemy of the people) often speaks as 1996 writes. Hmmm, I wonder…nope, he’s not an shit-stirring asshole. And he’s not as clueless about the Yankees.
If you say so…but a bit of advice? If the topic ever comes up in conversation, you should say “The moose and the squirrel foiled my plot!”, not “Moose and squirrel foil plot!”
Okay, Dostoyevsky, please provide cites for anybody, on or off this board, who think that Joe Biden has this election “in the bag.”. Right now. Links-a-go-go.
Well, you’re some kind of wing. Perhaps you are a chicken wing.
And here in capitalist imperialist America, the expression is that someone “overplays their hand” (singular), a reference to a hand of cards. Of course, in Mother Russia, hand overplays you.
