Yankees vs. Mets

Somebody had to start this thread. So let’s have some predictions for the World Series.

I say Yankees in six. Clemens will lose Game 2 (Piazza will have his revenge with a big hit), Cone will pitch well in Game 4 (and win if he stays in long enough), and after it’s all over, the world will keep on spinning.

Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees Yankees

Can you guess who I’m rooting for??

Gee zev, what took you so long to reply? I figured you for under a minute!

Not a prediction, but a fan’s cheer:

GO YANKS!

R.I.P. NY Mets

No Bill Buckner to save the Mets’ ass this time.

Yankees all the way. Can you say Three-peat?

And, oh yeah, The Rocket lives up to his star billing and wins the MVP.

Not that I’m a big Mets fan or a fan of Bill Buckner, but please give the guy a break. He didn’t lose the 1986 World Series.

  1. It was only Game 6
  2. The game was already tied thanks to the efforts of Calvin Schiraldi and Bob Stanley
  3. Bruce Hurst didn’t hold on to a lead in Game 7

I always felt sorry for Bill Buckner. He had a fine career and was an excellent player, but will always be remembered for that one moment (when, IMHO, he shouldn’t have even been in the game anyway).

Same thing for Fred Merkle. He had a long career (17 years, I think), yet all he is ever remembered for is the fact that in his rookie season, he didn’t go all the way to second base on a game winning base hit.

Game 1 - Great, great great! But if all the games are like this, it’s gonna kill me!

I think this game showed the Yankees strength - patience and experience in big games. Some of the Mets made mental errors that ultimately cost them the game.

Game 2 prediction - Clemens comes out too pumped up, gets in trouble early, and leaves with the Mets ahead. Yankee bullpen saves it.

I’m not a religious man, but an act of the IPU that would wipe out the Bronx and Queens would be appreciated right now.

Phils #1 in '01!

When I was watching it, I was babysitting and I was getting all nervous that I would miss the end of the game when they were driving me home…but fortunately I was home for the whole 12th inning! :o)

Well…Clemens did get in trouble in the first with the whole bat thing…but so far (top of the 6th) the Yanks are ahead 4-0 – :o)

(Just for the record I’m a Yankee fan).

First a fastball to the head, then he throws a sharpened bat . . . why doesn’t Clemens just SHOOT Mike Piazza?

Clemens is pitching great, but he sure did take the fun out of it. He’s a punk.

Whew! That was a little too close for me. I think I would have at least let Clemens start the ninth, but I’ll never argue with Joe Torre.

2 down, 2 to go…

8 innings, no runs, no walks, 2 hits, 9 Ks . NUFF said.

BTW, had Clemens hit Piazza when he threw his broken bat back at him, would that have counted as a HBP? Would Piazza have been awarded first base? D

Late Prediction

Yankee fans, rejoice, Tuesday El Duque is unleashed. Yanks finish the Mets in 5.

If it goes to 6, Klemens kicks some ass. And, oh yeah, El Cohete lifts off the MVP hardware.

A smilie should have appeared here:

Another correction

If it goes to 6, Klemens kicks some ass. And, oh yeah, El Cohete lifts off WITH the MVP hardware.
