Yay!!!!!!!!!! George of the Jungle is on his way!

I just received an email from Amazon that my DVD set of George of the Jungle: The Complete Series that I pre-ordered has been shipped, a full 4 days ahead of its release date. By Tuesday, I’ll be reliving the adventures of

[ul]
[li]that defender of the jungle, protecter of the weak, and all-around good guy[/li][li]that funny-lookin’ fella who never shaves, Ursula[/li][li]an ape named Ape[/li][li]Tookie[/li][li]that big, gray, peanut-lovin’ poochie, Shep[/li][li]Tom Slick[/li][li]Marigold[/li][li]Gertie Growler[/li][li]Super Chicken [/li]and
[li]Fred (you knew the job was dangerous when you took it.) [/li][/ul]
WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE!

Yes! I just ordered my copy.

Super Chicken! Fantastic.

Just caaaallll for Super Chicken !

Yay! It came, just a day after official release date. 2 DVDs, all the original complete episodes, including Tom Slick and Superchicken. Plus the unaired George of the Jungle pilot. I haven’t watched these episodes in over 10 years. Cartoon Network ran them around the time the live-action George movie with Brendan Fraser came out.

Today, CN has a new G.o.t.J. cartoon, but it resembles the old one in the names of the characters only. It’s geared down to a 10 year old level with none of the sharp satire that Jay Ward’s cartoons were famous for. sigh

The Canadian George is sadly lacking the old-time Ward wit, but it has a charm of its own. Jay’s daughter, Tiffany Ward, is one of the executive producers, and it’s obvious she’s very big on keeping her father’s characters alive- she’s been behind all of the recent Ward-related projects, and also commissioned a renovation of the Bullwinkle statue in Los Angeles which stands outside what was original the Dudley Do-Right Emporium. (If you want to find out more about Jay and his creations, read The Moose That Roared by Keith Scott, a very informative and entertaining book.)

In a previous job, I used this line all the time.

And years ago, when I had a parrot, I taught him the Tookie-tookie bird call. It cracked me up to hear an African Grey parrot calling out “Awk-awk eek-eek tookie-tookie!”

I may give the new George another try, then.

I have a lot of respect for Keith Scott. He’s a very capable voice-over man who was a friend of Bill Scott, the original voice of George, Bullwinkle, and Dudley Do-Right, among others. He did a superb job as the voice of Bullwinkle in the live action-CGI Rocky and Bullwinkle movie, and the announcers in the Bullwinkle and the George of the Jungle films.
