I need to lose about 10 pounds. I could stand to lose a little more than that, but at least if I lose 10 pounds, my bloody clothes will fit again. Something about Everquest, moving, and general lethargy made me fat over the past year.
About 2-3 years ago, I lost 20 pounds with eDiets. I know I can lose weight on their plan, but it’s very structured, and doesn’t fit into my current lifestyle very well. So I made the decision to simply eat healthy when I can & eat less overall, while exercising at least an hour a day, and see how it goes. Food wise, if we go out I try to choose relatively healthy food and only eat half of what I normally eat. I don’t scour the menu trying to find the ‘healthy’ food that leaves me feeling deprived - if I want that meatball sub instead of the low-fat turkey sub, I get it. I just eat half of it instead of the whole thing. Or I’ll get soup and a salad, cuz I like those things. And damn it, I’ll eat the cheese in the salad!
Exercise wise, I work out every day, at least an hour. This is either 30 minutes of running/30 walking (I’ll build up the running part slowly), or I ride my bike (at least an hour, maybe longer), or I go to the gym and do squats, sit ups, and upper body weight work. On my lazy days, I take the dog for an hour walk. Oh yeah, the dog needs to be walked at least twice a day, so add in 30 minutes of walking most days.
I’ve been doing it for about 2 weeks now, and the first week didn’t look good. I didn’t lose a pound. This week, though, I’m 3 pounds down! Yipppeeeee! I hope it keeps working, this is the easiest ‘diet’ I’ve ever been on!
Sounds like you’re onto something: what nutritionists have been saying for years, “eat less, exercise more.” Sure, if you exercise an hour every day and cut your calories, you’ll lose weight. It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change.
I wish I could find an hour every day to exercise. I guess I could get up early and walk the dog for 1/2 hour and then at night spend another 1/2 hour on the exercise bike, but as with many people, other things seem to take priority. I need to just take the time and let some other things slide for a while. Hey, if I lose the 15 lbs. I need to before my trip to Italy (2 months away), who cares if the house is a wreck, the dogs are ignored, and there is no food in the house! If there’s no food in the house it’s easy to not be tempted to overeat.
Congratulations and keep it up! Isn’t it weird how once you get into an exercise routine, when you aren’t able to do it one day for whatever reason, you really miss it?
