Yay! New Hampshire Has Gay Marriage!

LIVE FREE OR DIE! :D:cool::stuck_out_tongue:

Statement by Governor Lynch

Great news!

In related news, the legislature in Nevada (which has a constitutional amendment prohibiting gay marriage) overrode the governor’s veto of a civil union law.

Pity about the amendment. I could see Nevada’s economy getting a decent boost from “gay marriage tourism” if they legalized it. Granted it wouldn’t count in a couples home state (sadly, what happened in Vegas would stay in Vegas), but I could see a decent number of folks making the trip just to get the certificate and have a Vegas honeymoon.

Fantastic! So now the only holdouts in the New England area are New York and Rhode Island, right? Progress marches on…

“You can’t stop what’s coming”

And just in time for Pride Week!

New York isn’t cool enough to be part of New England. Rhode Island has a Republican Governor who has said he’d veto any attempt to make gay marriage legal, and so will probably have to wait till he leaves office.

Congratulations, New Hampshire!

The momentum for equality is building, and it’s really exciting to see.

I think you mean:

LOVE FREE OR DIE!
I am so happy with my state right now. Only one of my 4 representatives voted for it, though. She will be getting an email of support from this straight, part-time stay-at-home mother tomorrow.

(Find your legislators here, and click through to their voting record.)

So, in 2012, during the next Presidential election, both Iowa and New Hampshire will have legalized same sex marriage.

Anyone know what the stat is on gay marrriage in NY and NJ? I think I read those are the two states most likely to get it next…this is really exciting. The best part (besides glb people being able to marry) is that you KNOW consertatives are foaming at the mouth about it.
I think it’s gonna be like a domino effect…more and more states will have gay marriage!

Yay, New Hampshire!!! I knew they’d be next!

The news these days must be so depressing to homophobes.

NY has legislation pending, with the governor commited to sign, but it’s probably got less then an even chance of passing through the legislature. Dunno about NJ.

Rhode Island … helloooooo. Let’s get with the program shall we. Why all of New England could be positively fabulous!

That’s just wonderful! The tide is definitely turning!

It all makes me more angry at my own state (Washington) which has a law on the books limiting marriage to one man/one woman.

We just passed an “anything but marriage” civil union law, but that’s just not the same thing.

I’m pleased by this turn of events, but my parents sure aren’t; for baffling reasons my mother is fine with civil unions, but doesn’t like gay marriage laws. I disappoint them by being a moderate, sigh.

How many more states need to follow suit before my gay and bi friends can get married/have a civil union anywhere in the country?

Hi NH, welcome to the 20th Century.

Mighty Girl
From the 16th Century. :frowning:

Rhode Island’s not going to happen until after 2010, at best. Too many anti-gay legislators, and Carcieri is apparently a dick when it comes to equal rights.

Hopefully they’ll get to the 21st century like the rest of us did 9 years ago…

 I did that on purpose. To me it won’t be the 21st Century until NOBODY is oppressed because of such minor details. Some countries are like in 1998 now, others, like mine, are barely discovering the Gregorian calendar.
