Michael Strahan’s new sitcom on Fox: Brothers (TV Series 2009) - IMDb
Y’know, a lotta guys wouldn’t ask a professional football player to lead a sitcom. Yeah, I remember Alex Karras on “Webster,” but he had dozens of acting credits before that. Michael Strahan has two, but he does okay. And I adore CCH Pounder; she hasn’t done much comedy but has the chops to pull it off. Carl Weathers, whom I never associated with comedy until “Arrested Development” but he slipped into that role so completely that I thought the producers had picked him up on a freeway on-ramp carrying a sign saying, “Will act out the fight scene in ‘Rocky’ for food,” but he does okay.
The standout is Daryl “Chill” Mitchell and his wheelchair. I hadn’t heard about his accident, but I could tell he wasn’t faking it. He dances with that thing, like it’s a part of him. He was a wonder to watch. Fun to listen to, since he’s always been funny, but the chair adds an extra dimension. I hope this show lasts long enough for other producers to notice him.
I’ve always liked him. I remember him from back in the day on The John Larroquette Show, but most probably have seen him in Galaxy Quest.
The only thing I could find was an IMDB link verifying that he suffered complete spinal injury in 2001.
Good to see he’s still acting. He’s pretty funny.
Watch him on that show. He kills. Doesn’t make the show better, but yeah, it does.
Yup…motorcycle accident in '01 left him paralyzed from the waist down.
I had no idea he was really in a wheel chair. I thought it was just part of the character. Wow.
Me too. I haven’t seen him in anything since Galaxy Quest.
He was in the show “Ed” for one or two seasons and they dealt with his dealing with being in a wheelchair very well. I believe his stint on the show started around 2002 so it was probably right after he actually got into his accident.
I thought it was affected at first, but he played it so beautifully I realized it had become an artform with him.
This made me laugh because I noticed in the credits that Darryl Chill Mitchell is one of the producers of the show - along with Strahan. It doesn’t look too awful, I’ll give it a chance.
“You know what you should do with your front teeth? Introduce them!”
I didn’t see the show, but regarding his finesse with the chair.
When I was a young teenager, there was this boy in our neighborhood named Tony. He was FINE! Boy was he cute, maaaan, every girl like to watch him. He had this demeanor about him; this swagger. He was smart and socially politically concious and always teaching us things. And we hung on his every word.
But the hottest thing about him was his walk. He had this…walk. All of the girls used to comment on it. Back in those days, bow-legged (we pronounced it ‘bow- leggid’) was in style, but he wasn’t bow legged. No, he had this…lean with his walk that was just cool.
Then he was shot one night, and ended up in a wheel chair. The idea of cool ass, fine ass Tony in that chair was enough to make us cry real tears.
It was a long time before he came back on the scene; but when he did! Boy did he work that chair like nobody’s biz. He was spinning and leaning and rockin’ and rollin! Hahaaa! He had the same cool ass swagger! So funny. I haven’t thought of him in years. Good ol’ Tony. Sorry for the hijack, but it was nice to talk about him for a minute. He’s a great guy.
