I have been trying to spread the idea of National Raymond Day, with limited success.
Traditional National Raymond Day activities include having a tasty meal (ideall, BBQ of some sort, but tasty is required), an alcoholic beverage (waived for those on the wagon or underage) and, if female, to send me naughty pics.
That last one hasn’t had a lot of success, but given my semi-single status this year, I’m optimistic.
My friends will often get me a little gift, which is nice. Not necessary, but nice.
In fact, I am. But I try to spread the joy, as they say.
For those in California (where my brother, whom I share a birthday with) it is also known as “Regionally Recognized Non-Denominational Justin Themed Holiday”.
December 16th, if you’re looking to throw a party for any particular reason.
My parents always take me out to dinner and buy me a gift. Last year it was a new coat, this year a Wii game. And they give me some money, too.
In college, my friends generally took me out to dinner, too. I’m in a small grad program now and interestingly enough another student/good friend has the exact same birthday, so the other students find it worthwhile to do a little something for us since it’s a 2 for 1 deal. Last year we went out to dinner and this year they gave us both an individual box of cupcakes and someone bought us a giant brownie a foot in diameter, put some candles in it, and then all 20 other students sang Happy Birthday and the two of us blew out the candles. It was pretty awesome.
I’m not one for big parties but I do like it at least acknowledged that it’s my birthday.
I had a birthday party last year and I’ll have one again this year, simply because I like having people over. I don’t want gifts, though some people will show up with beer or wine. For years, I had birthday dinners or nothing because I lived in a one-bedroom apartments and didn’t want to cram them full of people or cause a lot of disturbance for the neighbors.
I enjoy attending birthday parties, much more than birthday dinners unless the dinners are very small. It takes approximately two weeks for everyone to sort out the bill for a 20-person birthday dinner with everyone on one check.
