Just the left? So all those 6-year-olds I saw in front of the abortion clinic, holding signs with supposed dead fetuses and calling me and my coworkers murderers, calling on God to strike us all dead, were from the left? The children wearing “God Hates Fags” t-shirts and protesting with the Westboro Baptist Church are leftists?
Actually, I find it equally disgusting from either side. Like the instances you mention. And a sign I saw once in Arkansas, I think it was: “Evangelical Camp —Openings—ages 6 - 12”.
Because she identified it. In on of her books. Not talking about doing it with kids, specifically, but making people spokespeople with the expectation that they can’t be rebutted. I think two of her examples were Max Cleland and the 9/11 widows.
Post #8 stated your antipathy toward any political group using kids as spokespeople. But your post #10 negated that neutrality by stating that the tactic was employed by the left (you left out the right), and THEN stating that Ann Coulter discussed it (I assume only as it’s used by the left, given her stance) in her book.
I mean, it’s not a huge hairy deal, but your post #10 seems to imply that you believe it’s used solely (or mostly) by the left.
Red Eye is the worst show on Fox, and Gutfeld is the most worthless piece of shit on the entire network (and that’s really saying something). When it comes to political analysis, Greg Gutfeld makes Snooki look like Rachel Maddow.
It’s fine to decry the use of children to promote a political message (those these assholes would not have had a problem with it if it was a message they agreed with), but you don’t savage the kids themselves. You don’t call eight year olds “little bastards” on national television, and if someone like Keith Olbermann had said the same thing about a bunch of kids being used in service of some Teabagger message or religious message, these very same assholes on Red Eye would be purple with indignation.
As for the video itself, it’s no different than the shit people constantly do to their kids with religion.
Nothing contradicts anything else. I find it disgusting when kids are used. Period. Whether it be the idiots who drag them out to abortion clinics or the idiots who turned their own children into ghosts and had them march in the protests against the Iraq war here in San Francisco. Or now, the idiots at moveon.org.
To John Mace’s point, I think it’s wrong whenever an unattackable person is used as a spokesperson for a controversial issue. Let me modify that: they can be used, but there should be zero expectation that they can be attacked. And zero whining when they are.
And, yes, I see it more of a tactic from the left. If you can show that that impression is wrong, I’m happy to retract it and heap equal condemnation on the right.
9/11 widows and Vietnam vets are perfectly capable of formulating their own opinions and have every right to do so. They are not “unattackable,” and are not being used.
Having grown up seeing little children preach in tent revivals and on playgrounds at recess and been called a murderer, the whore of Babylon, and Satan by 6-year-olds as an adult at work, I’ll just agree to disagree with you that it’s more a tactic from the left.
Interestingly, I was recently called on at my front door by a man accompanied by a small child dressed up in their Sunday best. They wanted to save me from my sins. I don’t think they could reasonably be called “leftists”.
Coulter wasn’t attacking their opinions (which would be fine), she accused them of “enjoying their husbands’ deaths” which was asinine, and which would end in right wing media crucifixion if the partisan sides had been reversed.
Incidentally, hasn’t the right pretty much hid behind “the troops” like little bitches for the past ten years?
