Yuppie scum? Beemers? Fern bars?
Ladies and Gentlemen, I do believe we have a time traveller from 1986 in our midst.

I seem to remember a story that BMW’s factories were dismantled specifically to prevent them from producing any more aircraft engines after WWII, but can’t find much info online about it - can anyone else verify that? (I know the factories were dismantled, more interested in the reasoning behind it…)
A sporty lil’ BMW is in my future, I swear.
And don’t forget to mention Coldfire that BMW also makes the most wonderful boat engines too. Their legendary 3.5 litre straight six is powder coated and used in oodles of inshore ‘lake’ power boats. And most people are unaware that boat engines are far more highly stressed than automobile engines due to the fact that they are always under pressure, unlike car engines which can ‘coast’ a lot of the time. It says an awful lot about the BMW factory that they make such a huge range of world class products - from bikes to boat engines to cars all the way up to that amazing 18,000RPM Formula One engine.
Indeed, the Original Post has identified something extremely valid - namely, if there is one automotive company in the world to be amazingly jealous of (if only for their incredible expertise) it’s the BMW company.
But to then let it do your head in? I don’t have to say a word…
Up it to 35 and I’ll join you.
tee hee
Not sure we can do that - then we might be straying into lower range BMW’s.
Out of interest, what’s an S class Jag cost in the states now?
Gary, I refuse to accept the S type as a real Jaguar. It’s a glorified Taurus that tops out at around 50K.
I’m so pissed at Ford.
As long as you accept the XK8 as a proper Jag we’re fine.
Powder coated? I’ve never heard that term before. What’s it mean?
Gary, the XK8 is a fine automobile. I test drove a '99 and was in heaven. We’ve got two kids, though, so it wasn’t exactly practical for us.
<sob> Nobody respects my Trabant.
[wil farrell]I DRIVE A DODGE STRATUS![/wil farrell]
JuanitaTech, the S-Type definitely doesn’t top out around $50K. In fact, the S-Type R has an MSRP of $62.5. That’s more than a normal XJ8.
And I drive an American car, and it’s wonderful. Americans are doing some very interesting things these days…
Power coating is a painting process, more or less.
Looks like BMW still makes aircraft products.
actually, I think the Euro plate on the front is kind of cool.
What I can’t stand is the people who put a plate on the front which is just another chrome manufacurers badge. We’ve all seen them (in the US, in states w/ no mandatory front plate). This makes it very obvious to me that this person did not really but their car for it’s engineering quality, it’s silky engine or it’s handling prowess. Nope. They bought the badge. And they’re so goddamn proud of the that BMW or Benz badge that 18 inches beneath it they must plaster a bigger, shinier, tackier, more garish badge just to proclaim to the world that they drive a MERCEDES, or a BMW.
I drive a nice Nissan by the way. And I don’t hate the Germans, or German cars. Just poseurs.

in fact, it irks me so much I must post TWICE so you get the point!
ugh.
I thought, for some reason, the S type R wasn’t availble until later this year.
The regular S type tops out around 50K, though, right?
Either way, it’s a crime.
Yes, I agree, American car makers are doing interesting things. Like the Aztek…or the Cadillac CTS…or the Buick Rendezvous. Hmmmmm, now that I think about it, ‘interesting’ isn’t quite the word I’d use.
I just built a 4.2 S-Type online for $59.4.
And I have a Cadillac CTS, thankyouverymuch. It’s a polarizing car, but I like it A LOT better than the look-alike BMWs I test-drove.
lol!!!
That’s too funny, Necros. I insult three cars. Three out of dozens of models and you own one of the three.
I guess I tend to lean towards a more conservative, European styling than a more modern design. I’ve got my eye on the BMW 5 series wagon. It’s so yummy.
That being said, I still think your car is ugly. I won’t key it though.
Not to mention it seems that their slogan is “It’s all good”. Where is that barf smilie when you need it??
