I have been a very infrequent poster these last few months due to real-life consuming my time. It was only by lucky accident that I found out that you were “gone”.
We’re still in old-man-winter’s grip here up north. Hope the weather down by you is more enjoyable.
Sending you visions of melt-in-your-mouth chocolate!
I don’t agree with you. But for reasons I think you’ll honor.
First, the key point behind what happened was a perceived breach of confidentiality. For her to discuss her motivations, then or now, would simply aggravate the above breach.
Second, it should be obvious to anyone who has been here more than a few months (and I’m explicitly excluding folks who checked in and became familiar with the SDMB as this whole incident was brewing, for what I think are obvious reasons) that the SDMB is important and dear to Jenny. To have endangered its continued existence, even for what she may have thought the best of motivations, must be a severe burden on her.
And finally, it is precisely the sort of vigilante justice being bandied about in posts regarding Jenny that elicited the original problem. We are not members of a democratically chosen board here; we are the paying guests of the Chicago Reader, Inc., which sets the rules for the establishment. We can choose to abide by their decisions or go elsewhere. In a combination of justice and mercy, they decided a month’s suspension was the appropriate call. Jenny has served that and is now back on duty. To suggest that she needs to be permanently on a Confidentiality Breachers Registry or something of the sort is deeply ironic to me, given the circumstances.
Welcome back! So, lessee now, while you were gone, you:
[ul]
[li] wrote the Great American Novel;[/li][li] found a different proof for Fermat’s Last Theorem;[/li][li] remodeled your kitchen;[/li][li] discovered a packet of letters from Napoleon to Josephine behind the old counter that you removed;[/li][li] auctioned them on eBay for a tidy sum;[/li][li] and worked on your tan.[/li][/ul]
Glad to have you back, although the American cultural scene (and DiCaprio’s career) will definitely suffer if you don’t finish the Titanic II screenplay. Maybe you can work on it nights…
You also forgot the esteemed Moi - figured it was pretty crass to put my .sig on the posts in this thread, but it is available via my profile to paid members. Guess I was a little too sub-tle.
Ms. Diva, I do hope you stay. I hope one of my many friends who are staying ping me should you or SMDB decide to change your status as an Administrator.
Hey, it was me, expressing an opinion. It’s a message board; we’re privileged to do that, right?
I have a lot of respect for several posters “on the opposite side” here; CrazyCatLady comes quickly to mind, and a short skim through this thread or the parallel Pit thread would give me several more names.
But I’m sayin’ what I think. Others are welcome to hold their own views. And TubaDiva will say what she feels appropriate to say, when and if she so chooses; I’m neither trying to stop her nor be her mouthpiece.
In fact, I appreciate your comment – it brought it home to me that I was sounding like I was pontificating as to what everybody ought to think, which wasn’t my intent at all. (Bad habit I’ve picked up; gotta break it.)
