Yes, Marley23, you are stupid

I was snorting at Marley’s comment, not at whether a mod is allowed to operate in forums to which he or she is not assigned. But you’re not that stupid, right? You knew what I meant.

As to the hijack, I don’t think “knock it off” is rude.

I hate to see Mods and ex Mods squabbling in the open like this.

It spoils my image of a group of wise and indulgent gods dispensing justice and advice in a benign and open handed manner.

Say they were in a paddling pool full of cold custard, would that make it more palatable?

Gee, tom, I thought you knew. These days it’s how the listener feels, not your intent.

All kidding aside, I’ve had a couple (justly) directed at me, and I’m not insulted or anything. It’s short and gets the point across.

Oh fuck yeah, I knew what you meant. And you might notice, I didn’t comment on it in the thread where you did it, even though you were clearly threadshitting. In fact, you might notice I didn’t respond to your OP, but instead to this gem:

Remember saying that?

That statement is misleading, at best, as I’ll illustrate in a moment. And it didn’t go unnoticed:

That’s why I said, “Since that time has any staff member explained to you what the rule is regarding moderators acting in other forums? Because I’d be happy to explain it to you, but I think the “no response” part is very misleading.”

I have it on good authority that **Frank ** took his case to another member of the staff, who pointed out to **Frank ** that we have “no rule that moderators are only allowed to moderate in their own forums.” He was asked for citations that proved his point.

Frank responded, “I’ve cooled off today. After mulling it over, I don’t think I wish to go any further with this.”

So **Frank **, you *did *get a response, albeit not from Marley, and accepted it. Then you stopped by to shit the thread, and when that was pointed out, you started this one, in which you called **Marley **a “liar.”

For the times I’ve seen a mod use “knock it off” it has struck me as the appropriate balance between stern and informal. I think those who are seeing it as insulting or condescending are coming to this with a guilty conscience.

Private emails to the staff are fair game to be posted on the board? I never knew that.

Regardless of whether I continued what I decided would be a fruitless quest or not, my opinion still holds that Marley23 is the most useless and incompetent mod I’ve seen in my time on the board.

If they are, can we see more private e-mails from mods?

I can break out the popcorn. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ooh ooh! And when Frank snorted, he coulda said, “I’m funny how, I mean funny like I’m a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I’m here to fuckin’ amuse you?”
And Frank: I wouldn’t have bothered to answer your “question” about whether Marley was a GD mod either. I know that you know damn well that he isn’t, and that he is allowed to moderate in that forum regardless.

You only “asked” to be a dick.

Either that, or you’re the most useless and incompetent [ex-]mod ever.
FWIW–it would have never occurred to me that anyone would find “knock it off” condescending or inappropriate. But I’m from the land of the crass too.

Yeah, but it gets so lonely and boring at the top of Mount Olympus. Even the wise, sage Gods must kick around their subjects every once and awhile.

Apparently you didn’t know a lot of things. You are the one who brought private discussions into this thread. While I admire your ambition in feigning surprise when disingenuity fails you, this isn’t your best work.

I know a worse one.

Where, precisely, did I do that?

I don’t have a dog in this fight (or however that phrase goes), but it’s my understanding that private e-mails are not fair game to post openly.

Take that from someone who’s violated that rule.

Q

C’mon, that was settled in post #1, we have since moved on to other more debatable topics.

C’mon, you can’t have posters wandering about the boards ‘snorting’ at moderators like a pack of water buffalo, and…
Uh-oh.

You know what? I say that to my 2 1/2 year old, but she doesn’t cry about it. I would expect adults to live up to that standard, especially in a place in which everyone knows (or should know) the rules.

This deserves repeating.

You really are a little shit for airing your dirty laundry in public. Yes, I know, “he did it first” (waaaaaa) – which shows you have the maturity of an 8 yr old. Congrats on that.

I have no idea why some of you have a problem with Marley23. And this isn’t the side of Frank that I’m used to either.

I think the first time that a mod ever spoke to me (Coldfire, perhaps?), he told me to “knock it off.” I was stunned. No one had talked to me that way in about fifty years. (I had had students call me names, but no one in authority had been that casually rude.)

I’m old enough to have great-grandchildren, so it was just unexpected. I had always associated it with bullies. I’d rather be told to “Let it drop” or “Leave it alone for now.” But if that’s too much trouble, by all means take your shortcut.

When I was growing up, getting slapped or beaten up by my mother always worked too.

And “living in moderation” means living in a police state? I don’t think so. Mods are here to make things go smoothly and in accord with the purposes of the SDMB. I vote for “debate chairs.”

Finally, Marley we think you’re cool. You’ve always treated me with fairness and you explain yourself well. I have no idea what they are talking about.
