The thing is that in those threads people are having a pleasant and enjoyable exchange and he just poisons the atmosphere with his bitching and stupidity so people leave in disgust. If you don’t agree with him in matters of religion you’re a bigot, if you don’t agree with him in matters of politics you’re antiAmerican and a supporter of terrorists. Then he goes around other threads where he has nothing to post but jibes directed at the people he has argued with before. Yes, I believe “asshole” is the correct term.

I think the big difference is that Coll tends to overreact and get abusive when someone says something stupid. Monty overreacts and gets abusive whenever anyone says anything.

Not that I excuse Coll’s invectives but at least his main point is explaining why he believes someone is wrong. Usually it is a long post explaining things and with the ocassional jibe so, even with the bad forms there is knowledge to be gained. Monty OTOH does nothing of the sort. His posts are just the insult with no attempt to add anything useful.
By his conspicuous absence here it doesn’t seem like he has much to say in his own defense.

I have seen any number of posters make an honest and well reasoned response and come under attack by Monty. I really find the comparison of Monty to Collunsbury to be significantly off base. Both have opinions (hi to December in this category as well) that vary considerably from the norm of this boards. Both will argue with passion and occasional invective. What sets Monty apart is his humorless, arrogant and distinctly personal form of vitriol. December and Collunsbury are people IRL I would be pleased to argue with over a beer at the pub. A beer with Monty is an invitation I would turn down without hesitation, even if he was paying.

You are a poseur. No, even that word is too good for you. You are not a “person who pretends to be what he…is not,” you are at least consistent in that. But whenever someone brings up your precious religion, you suddenly go into “auto-protect” mode. When you’re proven to be wrong, as in the above thread, you stop answering the question and start attacking the person.
In any debate, you must be right. There is no middle ground. There is no conceding of points. There is black, there is white. You consider yourself to be the “white”, and everyone who does not agree with any of your points is the “black.”
I believe I have been more than fair, open-minded and honest in my responses to you. I have been willing to listen to you, and even have acknowledged our difference in opinions. I have admitted that I have been wrong in our discussions on occasion.
