Monty, since we crossed paths here a bit over a month ago you have been posting jibes and potshots against me. You are holding a grudge and you can’t let go. As you have seen, I have just ignored your posts all this time and not responded but this is getting tiring.

I’m getting sick of Monty’s denseness. It seems like he like to toy with the minds of Dopers by intentionally misunderstanding them. If a personal is speaking figuratively, he’ll interpret them literally just to have his jollies. See my post in the Pit thread on the looting of Bhagdad Airport. I said the military so teaches you to work as a team that one is often made responsible for the actions of his peers. Monty chose to interpret this as if they were legally responsible just to seem a High and Mighty Expert on all things Military.
BTW Monty, a lot of us here on the Board have served in the Navy or other branches of service. While I’m sure your time at PSD this or that taught you about all kinds of regs, you are not the only true authority on military experience of the Board.

I’m sorry this thread was resurrected. I was just thinking about it yesterday, and came to the conclusion that, in spite of his responses here, Monty has actually been somewhat nicer since this Pitting.
Well, not with me. For the last month he has just made a nuisance of himself and I just ignored him but now that I respond he is the one who chooses not to respond. I do not think he has much to say in his defense. He was just being the usual asshole and he knows it.
What bothers me most is not just his childish barbs but the fact that he ruins perfectly good threads because when they get sidetracked on his stupid and heated stupidities people leave in disgust.
Very true Andros… very true indeed. Interestingly however, it’s a syndrome which can only “get to you” if you empower it to be important to you. I recognise that what I’m about to say falls into the “arguably psychobabble” department, but it needs to be said… messageboards, and the internet in general, somehow mysteriously propagates almost kindergarten like behaviour in adults… and you know what I mean… the tit for tat insults; the cries of he started it first; the ganging up syndrome which requires an intellectual form of tribalism etc etc.
This thread is full of it, but in the interests of fairness it should be noted that the SDMB is by no means an isolated event. On music websites in particular, the cliqueiness and popularity contest aspects are simply rampant. And worst of all, because there isn’t a physical threat of retribution existing in front of you, people say and behave on messageboards in manners they would NEVER behave like in real life.
And what does this say to me? All things being equal, the greatest challenge of all is to simply know when it’s actually best to just walk away and say nothing than to consciously pour more fuel on the fire…

That’s why it’s harder to walk away and be cool than it is start a pit thread, or sling around more insults… it’s innately non instinctive internet behaviour.
I came into this thread thinking “Monty’s been pitted? Huh?” You know, I lurk here a lot and post somewhat regularly, and I thought to myself, “Hmmm… Monty’s always struck me as being a pretty cool guy with a healthy sense of objectivity… wonder what’s going on…”
I didn’t learn much by reading this entire thread… but the nature of the thread, and the way people feel it’s cool to gang up on someone when they’re down and kick 'em in the ribs while it’s safe, well, quite frankly… there’s nothing noble in it.

Boo Boo Foo, I disagree with you. Pile up or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is whether the criticism is justified or not. If you find any of the accusations against Monty are not justified, then say so expecifically as otehr posters have done. But if they are all justified, then it just means the guy is an asshole and it is being justly recognised by a bunch of people.
If a man is taken before a judge for the umpteenth time for committing burglaries “I am just unpopular” would be a pretty weak defense. Maybe he is unpopular because people are sick of him stealing their property? The judge has to judge on the objective facts of whether the man is guilty or not.
Monty has a long history of being a jerk He has been a jerk for a long time and I have been ignoring him. Finally, look at the last incident: I answer him and he disappears, fucking coward that he is. If he does not want posters to pick on him why doesn’t he act a bit more nicely? And, if he is so convinced he is in the right why doesn’t he explain himself? Why does he keep being a jerk and then not making any attempt to explain himself or to smooth the situation? If you think any of the accusations in this thread are unjustified you can say so, and some posters have said so.
But, in the meanwhile, many people saying he is behaving like a jerk is a good indication that, indeed, he is behaving like a jerk. Look at the incident that prompted me to reopen this thread and tell me if you think he is right. The guy has a short fuse and needs to cool it.
As someone who has known Monty online since about 1996 or 1997, I can say that…
…he’s a flaming asshole. It gets to a point where you learn to just see his name and you move on. After that point, life becomes more tranquil. I highly recommend it. Come… come to the other side…

Can you provide any generalization that Monty has flung at Islam or Muslims that could not be supported by citations? (And, since you seem to be implying that he was hurling pejorative comments against Islam, I strongly suspect that you have confused him with some other poster. Monty, whichever of his other actions tend to irritate people, is hardly known for making sweeping negative generalizations against any religion (unless one considers Jack Chick or His4ever to be practicing some forms of 1-person religions).
