You like me! You really like me!
No, wait. You want me to help out in the Pit…
I’d like to thank Tuba, Manhatten, Chronos, Arnold, Gaudere, DavidB, UncleBeer, Slythe, Eutychus, CKDextHavn, Lynn, and Alpha for their support, and I hope that I prove myself worthy of their, and your, trust.
And a special shout-out to Cecil and Ed, for making this such a wonderful place to visit.
Okay, now that that’s out of my system, I’m going to go off and deal with the welcoming committee The Pit has offered up for me… shudder…
Only those who can pass through the Seven Challenges of Drain Bead are fit to sleep their way to moderatorhood. Backing down on the first challenge? You’ve got a ways to go SPOOFE.
There’s a lot of reasons that the Pit gets three moderators, while some others only get one. First off, there’s a lot less volume in the singly-moderated fora: The Mailbag forum, for instance, once went four days without any posts. Another big factor is what a moderator would need to do in each forum. In the two comments fora, the most common need for moderation is when a thread was posted to one forum, and belongs in the other. If this isn’t handled immediately, it’s no big deal: We can afford to wait until Dex wakes up. On the other hand, the Pit sees rather a share of trolling, ad hominens, etc, which really do need to be taken care of as quickly as possible.
Of course, the final reason is that Arnold Winkelried is continually online 24 hours a day, with his computer hooked up directly to a socket installed in his brain, and can moderate solo at any time. How did you think he always manages to be the first to post the link?
Thank you for the compliment, Chronos, but lately I’ve been slacking off  and sometimes several posts intervene before I get the chance to post the link, or, more often than not, the link is posted before I even get there, thanks to the efforts of the other fine posters of the SDMB.
