Yet another 100th post party (YA1PP)

Yes, I know it’s terribly naff and not the done thing anymore, but…it’s been an awful last two months and I need a party (I didn’t even have one for my birthday earlier this month :(), so, as Thrush Hermit sang,

The tormented artist is coming in
Fill up the glasses with fruit punch and gin
Open up the bar and let the party begin

Special thanks to ruadh, whose “Mad Hun” thread seemingly accounts for half of my post count. BTW, Celtic are next playing Aberdeen on 30 September. Hope there’s a tens digit on the Pittodrie scoreboard under “away goals,” we may need it.

And it only took 13 months to reach 100 posts! Schedule that 200th post party for September 2001!

Happy 100th post, Duke.

If you’re still looking for a party in October, come to the Dublin Dopefest (Mk III). You’re near enough …

Happy Hundred, Duke.

Er…can we belay the fruit punch and gin, and get beer? (Yeah, I know, I have no class.)

Probably a good thing I won’t be near DublinDope, 'cause I’d probably get plotzed and humiliate your socks off by warbling, “Duke, Duke, Duuuuke; Duke of URL, URL, URL…

OUCH! (dodges flying bottle} Quit throwing things!

Well, happy post party anyway. Keep 'em coming!

Veb

Happy 100th.
Crack open another coldie and throw another prawn on the barbie, I’ll be right there.

Oooh, an invitation from ruadh, how could I resist?

Unfortunately I have to send my passport into the gaping jaws of the UK Immigration and Nationality Department (UnotveryKIND as it’s known) in an attempt to secure my visa for another few years. What day will it be in October? My passport has to go into the wilderness on or about the 12th.

Keep the potcheen warm while I’m waiting…

Bad timing for you. However, if you want to risk it, it’s VERY unusual for anyone to check your passport between the UK and Ireland - especially if you travel over by ferry. Lots of people I know don’t even bring their passports on these trips.

AFAIK the UK and Ireland has an agreement that you do not need a passport to travel between the two countries . I have never brought one with me when flying to England and have never been asked to show one .

So come on Duke get yer ass over here

Anyway congrats on your 100[sup]th[/sup] . Pass me a Guinness and give us a song

Might aswell post my 800[sup]th[/sup] here so I’ll have a Whiskey chaser to go with the Guinness .

10 year old single malt should do .

Congrats on 800, yojimbo! I think I know a way to get over now…there’s a bus that goes from Oxford to Dublin overnight; I have a big suitcase and…oh, what do you mean there won’t be enough air??? There’s plenty of space in that suitcase for me and my air.

Now the difficult part is going to be how to explain to my wife why I’m going to be in Dublin for a weekend. “Well, uh, there’s this message board, on the computer, right? And, uh, I’ve been invited to a party in Ireland…no, I didn’t actually know these people three weeks ago, and I’ve never spoken to any of them, but this woman named Ruadh invited me…no, no, put down that axe…”

Technically, that’s true only for UK & Irish nationals. In practice, citizens of other EU countries are also allowed to waltz through customs. Non-EU nationals are required to show a passport - but again, that’s only technically, because they don’t actually check to make sure everyone going through the EU channel is in fact an EU national. As long as you aren’t wearing a turban or something that screams I AM NOT EUROPEAN they probably won’t stop you if you just walk through.

Of course, if they do, you’re in big trouble …
