I probably should be ashamed to admit that I know this one …:

  1. What was the name (including double-first name and last name) of Gomer Pyle’s beard girlfriend on Gomer Pyle USMC?

Why that would be Lou Ann Poovey. I may have misspelled her last name, though! And oh Og, but she could not carry a tune! And thought she was the best singer. laughs

I think the name of Harris’ book was Blood on the Badge.

New question:

What sitcom did Harry Morgan play a lead on in the 50s, and what show did it come out of?

I realize this is probably an easy one for some of you folks!

Morgan was on Dragnet.

This is the one I least expected to be answered; good job.

Since the thread’s a bit of a bust, the answers to the others that haven’t been correctly answered appear below.

  1. What was the name (including double-first name and last name) of Gomer Pyle’s beard girlfriend on Gomer Pyle USMC?

Lou Ann Poovy
5. What was the title of Detective Harris’s (not exactly runaway bestseller) novel on Barney Miller?

Blood on the Badge (“BoB” for short)

  1. What was the nickname of the friend from St. Louis who claimed to be Lamont’s biological father on an episode of Sanford & Son and what mistaken identity made him think so?

Big Money Grip; he thought he had sex with (Fred’s late wife) Elizabeth 9 months before Lamont’s birth, but it turned out he had sex with her sister, Esther.

  1. What comatose friend introduced Karen Walker to high society on Will & Grace?

Sunny von Bulow

  1. Who was the miserly old storeowner who was a recurring character on The Andy Griffith Show (most memorably a Christmas episode in which he intentionally tried to get arrested to join the jailhouse celebration)?

Ben Weaver

  1. Who was the lazy neighbor from back in the hills who tried to force Jethro to marry his daughter on The Beverly Hillbillies (and was on other episodes as well)?

Lafe (rhymes with ‘waif’) Crick

  1. What character on Good Times shared a name with one of the show’s creators and what part was that person famous for playing on another sitcom?

Michael Evans. The show was created by Eric Monte and actor/writer Michael “Mike” Evans, who was most famous for being the first and the last actor to play the Jeffersons’ son Lionel (who was briefly portrayed by another actor named, ironically, Damon Evans [no relation, who though he never sang on the show is a classically trained opera singer who now lives in England with his husband, incidentally]).
The surname was a coincidence. Monte and Evans pitched the idea for a show about a projects family "scratchin’ and survivin’ to All in the Family/Maude/The Jeffersons creator Norman Lear, who obviously liked it, but decided to make it a spin-off of Maude in order to tie it into the Lear-iverse and to showcase Esther Rolle, who he really liked, so they made Good Times a sorta kinda spin-off. (It was a sloppy birth; they changed the name/occupation of Florida’s husband, both character’s birthplaces, their residence from suburban NYC, and most importantly their financial status [the Evans’s on Maude were working class- she was a housekeeper and he was a construction worker- but not living in any place like the Cabrini Green setting of Good Times- should have just changed the characters altogether).
Anyway, since the family surname was already Evans, they named one of the sons Michael for its co-creator. Eric Monte sadly went from rags to riches (he sold his points in Good Times and What’s Happening? for millions) back to rags due to drug addiction. Evans faired better- making a fortune in residuals, real estate, and racehorses- but died fairly young of throat cancer a few years ago.

  1. What revelation did Dan/Reinhold learn from his parents as an adult about his pet turtle as a child?

That he didn’t run away and wasn’t just shy, but was in fact a potato that his (very poor) parents eventually cooked. He said that it was his favorite plaything as a child “along with my little toy drum… that had the big- picture- of- a- QUAKER- ON -IT!”

Harry Morgan starred in Pete and Gladys, a spinoff from December Bride.

Continuing the thread, Cara Williams, who co-starred with Morgan, also had a continuing role in which classic 1970s sitcom?

[nitpick]
Although Jack Nicholson co-wrote and co-produced Head with Bob Rafelson, the latter was the sole credited director.
