I think it sucked too, but I came out social liberal, which is probably as close as anything. I do believe in ultimately balanced budgets, but not when the economy is flat-lined. I am a follower of the biblical Joseph as was Keynes, incidentally. It is interesting how two of the most famous economists in history–Keynes and Adam Smith–were so widely misunderstood. No no one realizes that Keynes wanted surpluses during flush years (cf. Clinton years) and deficit spending during depressions. Oh, we’re not in a depression now? You haven’t been watching. And Adam Smith was all in favor of free markets, but recognized that government regulation was necessary to keep them free. I am a follower of each.
