Ha !
Yes, i heard that on the news…
What a farce.
Ha! That’s nothing. Visit Mount Trashmore in Florida.
I guess I’m a little confused why they’re “closing” it. They’ve already sunk all the money into it. Why not just let people walk up the stairs if they want to? I guess liability?
Because if they’re not willing to pay for the privilege of walking, then they can’t have it for free either.
Or the Cerne Abbas Giant. Though perhaps that might have given some people the wrong idea entirely.
Local elections in May. No doubt they’re hoping it’ll be forgotten by then.
I expect they’re going to need the scaffolding for when they’re replacing the flammable cladding
on all the high-rise residential buildings.
It was always intended to be a temporary structure, right from the planning stage. Even before it was built, it was scheduled to be demolished in Jan 2022.
I dunno. Barrows are pretty interesting. Like this one:
I actually went to it a couple of weeks ago (it was free). The Mound itself was unimpressive - as predicted, it didn’t have any good views, because the main thing to look at there is Marble Arch, and it obscures that. Also we used the lift, which was kind of kept secret; the stairs looked absolutely terrifying, basically like being a builder climbing up wet and windy scaffolding without a hard hat.
But it had an art installation inside, made of electric lights, and that was seriously impressive.
It was always intended to house an art exhibit, but they opened before that happened, and even with that it would have been way overcharging with the price they originally intended.
