Ymmv

Looking into my crystal ball, I see a post explaining what YMMV stands for, then me feeling embarrassed followed by a wordless post from me featuring the forehead-slapping smilie.

Your mileage may vary.

In other words, your experiences may differ from mine, but this is how I see it…

I guess in Australia and NZ, we should say YKMV. Doubt that it’d catch on, however.

Oh, yeah…since I’m probably the only American up right now, I should mention where the phrase came from. In the U.S., car commercials frequently mention the average mileage that the car gets. They then offer a disclaimer that your mileage may vary.

I haven’t noticed if - what’s it called - kileage?? :dubious: - is mentioned on Australian car commercials. Is it? And what do you all call it down here?

‘Mileage’ translates into ‘fuel efficiency’, as shown in this ad for a ute.

A “Humvee” is the US military’s general purpose car. A “Yumvee” is a Humvee that’s equipped to sell ice cream on the streets of Kabul.

YKMV?

Your “klickage” may vary.

:smack:

Wow, all this time I thought it might mean “you make me vomit” and figured some of you guys were being jerks . . . thanks for asking buns3000.

I used to think that TTYL meant “ta-ta, you loser.” :smack:

Here is a list of 'net abbreviations. Remember, we use English on SDMB, so use them wisely.

You Murdered My Vole!

a rarely used abbreviation…

In Australia and NZ we use “mileage”. The word has become sufficiently removed from the metric/imperial divide as to retain it’s useage in metric countries.

“G’day Bruce, what sort of mileage does your new Ford Courier Diesel get?”

“Yeah mate, about 15 litres per 100 kays”.

“Nice!”
