While it has a chance of plausibility given his supposed intelligence, but it seems a little odd that in 7 months he went from being a senior in college to being published as a person knowledgable in a certain science. That is assuming he graduated very soon after he posted about being a senior in college.
Going to school ~8 (notice the tilde… it denotes an approximation) years ago would have been in 1996, when he was ~10, the age someone would be in 5th grade, and began homeschooling.
His exact quote is “Well, I went to a poor school in the south, and then only until the fifth grade. (No, I didn’t drop out, I started college.)” and that doesn’t preclude the possibility of his being homeschooled for two years beforehand.
The school’s financial situation is irrelevant.
Admittedly suspicious but not proof of anything. All he said was that he was published. That could mean anything from an well-regarded academic essay to a magazine article.
One link says he started college after having done grade 5 at a school. And one said he was homeschooled for grades 5-7. Maybe he was homeschooled for part of grade 5 and went to a school for part of 5, but one version says that was homeschooled for grades 5-7, and one says that he went to college when finished with grade 5. How is that consistent?
The “~8 years ago” bit may be consistent with him being homeschooled, but since it is one of two different versions of what happend, it may be a lie.
Not two years beforehand, two years after. He was in grade 5 and then went college OR as one of his posts says he was homeschooled for grade 5-7 and then went to college.

Yeah, I suppose that could be a possibility. Seems it would likely be an academic essay, but “published herpetologist” would seem to imply more than that. I suppose it could very well have been true, publishing an academic essay after getting a degree… Just not saying it was a magazine or a academic essay makes it seem more like it’s more than that.
Or it could be awkward phrasing and an honest mistake. Grammar isn’t always very precise… for example, when I said “that doesn’t preclude the possibility of his being homeschooled for two years beforehand”, I meant before college, not fifth grade.

Misleading, yes, but not an outright lie and it fits in perfectly with his character or what we know of it. He’s a pretentious blowhard, yes, but I don’t see any evidence that’s he’s a troll in anything that you or Zero Gravitas linked to as your whole case against him are these lines:

It is a pretty big mistake to make. Grammatical mistakes that would give the impression you spent two/three years doing something you weren’t (being homeschooled grades 5-7) seem like a pretty big mistake to make, and one you’d probably need to clarify. Especially if you had said what your schooling situation was a few times before, and then it completely changes, from being 12 (which supports the homeschooling) and then to doing grade 5 (roughly, age 10) and then going to college. If the second part were true, he’d be a senior at 14. Just seems a little far off from what could be considered a simple mistake.

“And then, only until the fifth grade (No, I didn’t drop out, I started college)” says “I went to a school until 5th grade, then I went to college”. Again, very inconsistent with what he had been saying before. He had said he had started college at 12 / was a senior at 16, and kept on confirming that he was 16, why would he make such a big mistake that would implicate that it was a lie, that if the new version were true he was actually 14, and hadn’t been homeschooled and not correct/say anything about the post?
