Yo! paulberserker!

If this new trend (of posters allowing themsleves to be manipulated by anonymous people to post by proxy) is going to become the fashion, can we ask that you at least take the trouble of proof-reading what you post, and perhaps use a little critical thinking of your own before regurgitating what you’ve been spoon-fed? Thank you.

It was a mistake to post what I had, and I am sorry. I was wrong.

This is not necessarily implausible. Note that he does not say that his article was published in a peer-reviewed, professional journal. It could have been an article in some other less rigorous publication. Even so, I have know colleagues who had their first article published in a peer-reviewed journal - usually a short note - when they were still in high school. It’s also possible that Ilas may have been a junior author on an article by a more senior researcher. My first peer-reviewed publication - as the second of three authors - was based on research I did as a college undergraduate; the graduate student I had worked for actually wrote the article.

As I said in another thread, Ilsa does have a tendency to overstate his expertise, and to sometimes make mistakes. However, based on my own fairly extensive knowledge of herpetology, his general level of knowledge of the subject (not to mention his egotism) seems to me to be consistent with that of a precocious college undergraduate or beginning graduate student.

I withhold judgement, however, on the other aspects of Ilsa’s story.

Oh, for the love of God. Not that I mind defending myself, but don’t you realize how easy this makes it to find out who I am (as in, my name, address and phone number)? I mean, I know it’s my fault for posting it in the first place, but Jesus. At any rate, I’m having trouble parsing your objections to my story.

Now: Two years means fifth and sixth grades, dumbass, not fifth, sixth and seventh.

I went to public school until the fourth grade, and was home-schooled for grades five and six. At which point I started college (at age 12, roughly grade seven).

I have three notes in peer-reviewed publications. My first major paper is in review. I have collaborated on a few projects that never made it to press.

Any more questions?

Now: I would like to register my SERIOUS objections to this new “Spanish Inquisition” tack. Taking people to task for their statements is one thing, but attempting to compile everything that a person has ever said about their personal life and putting it all together and demanding that the poster acknowledge it and then fix any discrepancies is beyond the pale. The ease with which this sort of information could be used to get an exact personal identification of someone is frightening.

Anonymous people trying to “bust” dopers? Sounds like there is enough weaseling going on for now.

It’d be awfully nice if these anonymous people would come forth and post this stuff themselves.

Yeah, there’s a LJ community where all they do is write anonymous disparaging crap about other Dopers. Kind of funny to read, in a painfully pathetic sort of way.

Yeah, I read that once. My favorite posts are the ones which crow about how shitty the SDMB is and what a loser you’d have to be to post here. While that may be true, when you’re a groupie for an internet message board you hate you’re really not in a position to point fingers. It’s like the people who still watch every episode of the Simpsons so they can post at length about how shitty it is now and how they can’t wait until it’s cancelled.

Worst . . . episode . . . ever!
I’m only going to watch this one three times.

Today.
