Yogi and Freud

The following is a layman’s attempt to explain the basics of Freudian psychology using the cartoon series “Yogi Bear.”

  1. Yogi is the id, the unadulterated libido on an endless, desperate search for his one desire, the pickinick basket (read: sex).

  2. Boo Boo is clearly the ego, warning him; “that’s not such a good idea, Yogi.” It’s his job to hold the id in check.

  3. Ranger Smith? The superego of course; “the place where injunctions to behave properly, learned or inherited from people like parents, teachers and priests, reside.” That goes for park rangers, too.

No wonder that show was never very funny. But why does a bear need a tie?

“There is no spoon.”
-The Matrix

Sometimes a tie is just a tie.

Fabulous allegory.

As for Yogi’s tie: if he weren’t wearing a tie, he would be naked.

So what is it you’re really asking…why would you bring up the topic…tell me about your childhood…
