"Yor Dog Is Finally Getting Enough Cheese" _Old Dogfood Ad?

National Lampoon’s “Radio Dinner” makes reference to an old dogfood advert, from the 1970’s.
Apart from the crazy premise (chesse is not a good food for dogs), did any dogfood maker actually run this ad?
My dog (unfortnately) gets too much cheese (snacks)…and it shows!:frowning:

Love that album! IIRC, there was no ad that said that line per se. However, it was in the early 70’s that you started seeing a lot of dog food/snacks that were cheese-flavored.

It was an ad for Gaines-Burgers

I can’t find the ad online, but the was “Most dogs don’t get cheese as often as they like,” probably the most unfalsifiable statement in the history of advertising.

Gaines Burgers were dog food that looked like a hamburger. It was sold in a box, with each burger in a plastic bag. You’d break them up and feed them to your dog. It originally was just meat, but at one point they added cheese.

The line was also used in Deteriorata, (a parody of The Desiderata), also by National Lampoon.

Anything that inhibits their pooping is fine by me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Probably the track the OP remembers from Radio Dinner

Good catch. I didn’t realize *Radio Dinner *was an album; I figured it was another recording that used the same joke.
