For whatever reason, you and you alone have found a book, videotape, recording or ancient codex that provides incontrovertible proof of something explosive. And for the good of (the nation, your cause, the world, your family, your class, whatever) you have decided to destroy that evidence.
Being a Doper and nominally dedicated to fighting ignorance and upholding truth, that must have been hella something to prompt you to forever deny everyone else the opportunity to learn the truth. So what did you find, and why did you feel compelled to destroy it?
(It’s not just a matter of, “well, I’m sophisticated but the rubes my interpret this as X so I’ll get rid of it lest I fuel their ignorance.” No. This is it. This is proof, and you have no doubt. But it’s best that . . . the world does not know.)
BTW, it doesn’t necessarily have to be aliens. Maybe a deceased relative had an affair no one knew about. But aliens would be more entertaining…
My problem is that I would be more inclined to broadcast it. I can not really think of much that I would want to squash.
If you find something explosive, don’t try to disarm it yourself. Call a bomb squad.
The two things that spring to mind are the real *Necronomicon *(which I might destroy or might just keep and read to my detriment) or some embarassing sex tape. I would destroy the first for the good of humankind and the second for the good of me.
As far as things that actually exist, though, I can’t think of much that I would actually destroy for anything other than selfish reasons. Some doomsday weapon, perhaps?
Something along the lines of The Gemini Contenders I think I would destroy. Anything else I’d publish world-wide.
I would be most likely to hide it away someplace I thought was safe and keep it “just in case”.
My BFF saved a laptop from her trash because she knows I like to fix them. I found emails from her husband to several hookers. I burned my ISO on the hard drive and that was the end of it. The buck stops here.
