I recieved this email today from my local Libertarian party headquarters. I will be eliminating names and a phone number but I can’t believe that our nation feels that it’s okay to HATE a certain group of people that live and love in our cities.
WTF, we are Americans, not barbarians, this is completely inexcusable. There are no words to describe my sadness for those that have to put up with this kind of discrimination. I pray to my God (not Christian, Islamic or even a purple one eyed monster) that things like this will stop.
If I am able to be awake at that time, I will head on down and help my fellow Americans and Libertarians to stand by and show them solidarity. To show them not all of us are as asshole-like as the people that have been vandalizing their mosque. They are allowed to have religious services as much as the rest of us…no person on our soil should ever feel that their religion should not be practiced here in our country, not ever.
Dammit. God-fucking-dammit. Morons, all of them. Piece of shit morons. They’re hurting, too! Just because someone who comes from a similar background as them is a monster, that doesn’t make them monsters, too!!!

Our local Mosque has 24 hour police protection right now. They’ve moved an RV into the parking lot for police to stay in and across the street there is always at least 2 police cruisers or a police cruiser and a van.
It’s great that our police force is acting so deligently, but a shame that it is required.
It’s easier to hate an entire group of people than to realize that not every dark skinned, dark haired person who worships a certain way is responsable for this. It takes effort to do basic research and realize that not all Arabs are exactly the same. It’s much easier to scapegoat an entire group of people. The same way that it’s so much easier to think that all Christians are fundamintalists, or that all pagans sacrifice kittens to Satan. Picking up a book and learning something burns calories and requires one to actually use their brain.
A black and white world is simpler than a grey one.
Semi-related rant: Thank you so much, ABC, Fox, CBS and NBC, for showing the same coverage of a few dozen Palastenians celebrating Tuesday’s attack, without showing the reactions of any other Arab groups. I place partial responsability for these desecrations at your feet.
That type of blanket hatred is almost as disurbing to me as what happened on Tuesday. Bad enough that someone from outside our country is attacking us, but now we turn on each other?!
I treated a patient on Wednesday who twisted his ankle while evacuating a local Muslim temple because of a bomb threat. This man and his coworkers had been working on the roof when the threat came in. I shook my head and made a comment about how horrible it was that someone would threaten people simply because of their nationality and religion, and he replied “Yeah, but you really have to wonder if you can trust ‘those people’.” I almost cried! This was a black man talking to me. I thought that he, at least, would think twice before judging someone solely on the color of their skin.
May we all come to realize that this is the type of hatred that started the whole mess.
I called my friend the other day because I was worried.
I was worried that the anti Muslim sentiments I have been hearing might evolve into violence, and that he and his family might be affected.
He said that he was okay and that his family was doing well in the midst of this. His faith is strong and he feels that Allah will see him through this. Someone actually suggested that he shave his beard and remove his cap, despite the fact he looks remarkably like bin Laden’s brother he says that he will not deny his faith.
To him, Tuesday’s events were an act of war against all of us. He says that he knew other Muslims that worked in the WTC that could very well be among the dead. He too, is angry and expects that justice will be done and that the guilty parties will be found and executed. He is a Muslim and for him, the only suitable penalty for the murder of innocents is death.
He said the people who did this have gained no favour in the eyes of Allah or God. He has taken time from work to take care of his family and to say prayers for those who were lost in Tuesday’s attack. Knowing that I am an agnostic, he said he would say a prayer on my behalf.
He sets a good example for all of us.
Anyone who trys to harm him because he is a Muslim will have to deal with me as well.
Good for you and the Libertarians, techchick. Maybe seeing non-Muslims there will make some of the idiots’ brains reset.
I think we all knew this shit was going to happen. It reminds me of the reaction after Pearl Harbor, when Japanese-Americans were rounded up and put in concentration camps. I’ve always thought that was perhaps the most shameful official act perpetrated by our government in the 20th Century…but then I wonder how many Japanese-Americans were thereby saved from lynching.

The funny part was that he got into a panic because he found out that a former employee called the FBI and told them that she thought one of our customers was one of the people the FBI was looking for. I mean, WTF? Someone tells the FBI that they thought one of our customers was involved in that mess and he’s worried that the Feds are going to show up! Shit! He’s so goddamn xenophobic that its a wonder that we do business with any foreigners! To be honest, considering that we’ve done business with a number of people from the Mid-East, I was surprised that he didn’t call the Feds himself and start sending them everything we have on our over seas customers. Racist bastard.
