My money is on that not being the child’s parent. I’ve seen this sort of assinine behavior quite a bit by people hired to provide care for the disabled. This includes those paragons of virtue, DCFS-appointed foster parents, which is why reporting such maltreatment to to DCFS is pointless.
She may have been a bitch, but reporting her to the authorities? That’s a bit ridiculous. Different people have different parenting styles, and I don’t think mocking a child qualifies as something that requires a call to CPS. This woman’s options for keeping her kid under control are very limited, and verbal abuse is probably her only way of punishing him. For all you know he had been driving her crazy all day like 10 year olds do and he had been warned repeatedly.
Years ago when I was working retail I had sort of the reverse experience. I was helping this 30-something woman who had her elderly mother with her. The 30-something kept making snide remarks to her mother–the sort of thing that would be bad enough, but made worse by the fact that she made sure everyone around could hear. Finally she made one more nasty remark, turned to me, and loudly said “Wouldn’t you just like to slap her?”
No, I didn’t say “I’d rather slap *you,*you waste of a perfectly good cunt,” but I sure wanted to.
