Putting a lemon in a Coke is not particularly new, beverage wise. It’s like putting an olive in a martini or putting a lime in, in, in whatever you put limes in. A ‘cherry coke’ was an actual fountain drink. It was cola syrup with a little cherry syrup and soda water.
thanks again, hail ants. dur, yes, coke with lemon is an old thing. cola with lemon is new.
so pbtbtbtbtbtbt, hecklers.
I’m not old enough to have seen actual soda fountains, mores the pity, but I do know that at some “nostalgia” places you can get a Lemon Coke, which is made the same as a Cherry or Chocolate coke.

I have tasted lemon pledge accidently. Diet coke with lemon tastes exactly like it smells but lemon pledge doesn’t have even a faintly lemony taste. Diet coke with lemon is just as much of an eldritch horror though. The capitalistic demon swine would be proud at the new horrors they have helped rise.
Mischeviously yours,

If I could expand on the OP just a little bit…What’s the deal with all these new sodas coming out? Mountain Dew Code Red, and then Mello Yello Cherry and Melon, and now Lemon Coke and Pepsi Twist, all within a few months of each other. Are the big soda companies hurting at the moment? What is pushing them to create all these new flavors?
P.S. - Code Red and Cherry MY can’t touch Cherry Lemon Sundrop
