I’ve got dibs on France
I’d love to live in England somwhere, preferably London. I’d also love to live in Italy, Rome or Florence, but I do not speak Italian. I could try to learn, though.
England in a heartbeat. I dig it there. And I dig the british snese of humour.
I haven’t gone everywhere yet, but of the countries I’ve been to I’d pick England: I used to live there, and I miss it. Second choice is Ireland, because of the ancestors and all. If neither England nor Ireland will have me, I’ll happily settle in France (I love the French language).
Of the places I haven’t been, I’ve heard great things about New Zealand.
I’ve visited Milan, Florence and Venice. Florence rocks. I don’t speak Italian, but I’m willing to learn-in-place. (And Italy had the most beautiful women I saw in Europe!)
But if I lived in England, it wouldn’t be a big deal to holiday in Italy.
Kyoto, Japan. It’s the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen. Plus it has a developed downtown area, a great public transit system, and best of all, monkeys.
If the “free ticket” doesn’t include knowing the language and having a job in a city that doesn’t support your industry, then I’d pick London, England or Dublin, Ireland.
Hmm. I really like what I’ve seen of the Netherlands, but I’m not sure I could ever get used to living in a non-English-speaking country, so I think I’m going to be boring and say the U.K. (New Zealand would be nice too, but it’s so far away from everywhere else.)
B.C., Canada.
The northern Rockies, post card everywhere you look, friendly people, liberal government, decriminalized fun!
Of the places I’ve actually been: London, England
Of the places I haven’t been, but think would be pretty cool: Glasgow, Scotland
If I had to pick a country where English isn’t the native language: The Netherlands
I’m actually shipping out to Wales in January for a semester, so I get to see if living in the UK is really all I hope it to be.
Probably back to New Zealand. I already have a “free ticket” there anyway.
Canada. It’s less foreign than anywhere else.
Good point. I was going to pick Italy (since I assume my “free ticket” includes the Italian lessons), but it would be great to move back to England. Great country, I speak the language, and close to Italy (and other countries I’d like to see again – Portugal and France)! Or I could just move to Texas. Which is, as they say, a whole other country.
I will be the first to say there is not another country I would really care to live in. Canada, just 130 north of where I live now might be an option but I don’t want the colder weather. Australia could also be an option but I don’t get most of the sports down there. As a huge stock car racing fan, the even drive race cars going the wrong way on oval tracks. England is my ancestoral homeland but has many of the same issues as Australia. A family friend retired to Costa Rico about 10 years ago, she loves it down there except she is getting tired of the constant good weather. It’s sunny and 85 every day and when it does rain, it pours for a few hours then is sunny and 85 again. If I had to go somewhere else, you could send me to New York City. To a Washington state born country hick like me, that place would be just as foreign to me as any other place on planet Earth.
I’m happy with the Republic. Despite everyone crying fascism, there isn’t a better place than these United States and I don’t like George W. Bush or his policies!
Now if I knew Italian and had a job lined up, I’d move to Sicily because that’s where my paternal side of my family hails from. Agira, to be exact.
Anywhere in the United States? Wyoming. I consider it to be Colorado without the religious nuts and tourists. Plus there aren’t many wide open spaces where I currently live. Live a romantic life as a shepherd in a small shack out on the plains, my only human contact being the rancher who owns the sheep when he visits at the beginning of the month with my pay, a whore and a bottle of whiskey.
China. And this decision is due almost exclusively to the unequivocal awesomeness of its various dialects.
I’d go to one of those tropical islands that has a big, shallow lagoon with water clear as glass filled with corals and fishes, with a healthy rainforest behind it and not much in the way of people except for the very nice resort hotel where I’d stay when I wasn’t scuba diving or hiking.
To the USA, more specifically the DC area, so that I can be with my man.
If I can get him one of those free tickets too, I’d ship us both over to Italy somewhere because the food is so damn good. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind, and I could pick up the language easily enough if I put my mind to it.
Either London, England or Dublin, Ireland. If I get the ability to just learn the language instangly I would go for Paris, France.
Note my location. Although it’s inaccurate…3000 would probably only get me somewhere off the coast of Ireland, it’s more like 3500 miles back to where my heart is. And where I’d prefer to hang my hat.
Did I mention it’s our anniversary today? sniff
Practical: America, so I can do the L.A. actor thing without worrying about visas etc. .
Fun: England is my first impulse, but I should probably spend some time there before I go on an on extolling its virtues.
