You have a 'free ticket' to emigrate. Where do you go?

By ‘free ticket’, I mean that you can move to any country you choose, find employment, and make a life for yourself there. You do not have to give up your present citizenship, but my be a ‘dual citizen’. This poll is to find out where you would go if you were to emigrate, so ‘I would stay in the country I’m in now’ doesn’t count. Please say why you want to go to the country you choose.

Me: England.

It’s where my ancestors are from. I like the history. I can speak the language. I find many English women attractive. It’s fairly easy to visit the Continent. I like the beer. I like the architecture. I have two British cars. I like Jerusalem (aka The Glastonbury Hymn). If I could choose one airplane for personal transportation, it would be a Spitfire. I enjoy my eccentricites, and I think I’d fit in.

Canada:

Ontario or Vancouver preferably. Why? It’s like America Lite. I’ve visited Canada quite frequently and find the people as a whole really nice. I also have relatives there. Visiting the US would be relatively hassle free. Universal health care is a happy plus.

Second choice would be France

Why? Although I only understand a few french phrases, I love the sound of the language. I also think the french have a better attitude towards food, drink and recreation. Also it bike friendlier than the states. I’d feel more normal there riding a bike or taking long walks, both things I do here, but feel decidely different even in California.

New Zealand or Canada.

My first choice would also be Canada. From what I’ve seen and heard about the place, it’s always struck me as a pretty mellow country, which works for me. Plus I think I’d like the colder climate.

Another choice would possibly be Japan, but I think I’d really just like to visit there. I’m mainly motivated by geeky affection for Japanese culture so I’d probably end up unhappy if I actually moved there.

Oh, and …

…that’s an awesome idea. Since you’ve already called the Spitfire though, I’d happily settle for a Zero. Would you be up for dogfighting on the weekends?

Having never been anywhere outside the U.S. in the last twenty years (I was in Toronto for one day when I was eight years old), I’m giving a completely, totally, uneducated answer.

Ireland. Why? I like the accent.

My choices would be: New Zealand, Ireland, England, Canada. Hmmmm…methinks I detect a trend here.

Portugal.

Good climate, stable politics, lots of history, shares the language with Brazil. Not knowing the language would be a minus, but I can learn.

Barcelona or Amsterdam.

A nice mountain peak in Nepal or Tibet.

Australia. I like the climate, the cities, the coast, and I’m sure I’d like the people.

It wouldn’t bother me to give up the US citizenship either.

New Zealand or Ireland.

Yep, definitely a trend

Toronto, Canada.

My mother is Canadian, and I spent a great deal of time in Toronto and loved it. Plus they have baseball. I couldn’t move to a country without baseball.

Dominica (not the Dominican Republic). Been there and loved it. Sure, huricanes sometimes ravage the island, but I can be visiting the US at that time.

Japan.

Canada or New Zealand.

Australia probably. I thought about The Netherlands, but realized that I can already move there, it being within the EU and all that. I just spent my past year in NZ where many people here seem to be interested in moving to. I would choose Australia though - better looking girls (and nicer weather).

Canada or Australia.

California.

Hey! That’s not another…oh.

Wait.

Yes it is.

Peru would be my first choice followed by Japan, Australia/New Zedland and the workers paradise of Cuba.
