Let’s say that you have been bequeathed the services of an artisan for the rest of your days. Said artisan will create for you whatever is within their ability, and we will grant this artist unending talent and ability; I mean, they’re really good. . We’ll pretend that material cost is not an issue here, since we’re imagining the inheritance of what amounts to indentured servants, anyway, so we’re well into fantasy land.
What artist’s gifts would you desire?
Examples: Architect, Chef, masseuse, musician <get specific>, writer, clothier, engineer <get very specific here; if you want one who will create you your very own unique car, you don’t want one licensed to drive trains, or is adept at working computers>. I can only imagine someone will truly desire a bedroom artist above all else, and really, why not? It’s a talent and a skill, both; I think it qualifies.
I think you get the drift, and if you go off on a tangent a little, that’s ok, too.
We’re talking art, here, quality stuff, and that really is in the eye of the beholder, and this is all about making stuff just for YOU.
Personally?
I want a cobbler. I want someone who will make shoes for me, forever. Shoes that FIT, shoes that are good-looking and yet useable for something other than tottering on before falling into bed. Shoes that have cupcakes on them, should I desire it; shoes that are the most non-descript things ever, but that feel like clouds. <sighs happily>
Who do you want creating things just for you?
Custom furniture maker. I’d have just said carpenter, but I suspect this is a specialty. I’d want really nifty, hard wood, built in, with secret panels just about everything. We’ll start with the bookshelves and see if there’s room for anything else when that’s finished.
Master permaculture gardener. Can design, build, maintain, and operate permaculture gardens both outside and in greenhouses, yielding fresh organic food year-round, and recycling organic wastes and greywater back into the soil so that it doesn’t lose fertility. Would be competent in raising tree crops, ground crops, and small stock. So we’re talking nuts, berries, grains, tubers, legumes, brassicas, chickens, rabbits, all sorts of things. Including things like coffee, figs, and lemons in the greenhouse.
So if I want a fresh mango-and-banana smoothie in mid-winter, I’ll bloody well have one.
In Skald’s thread on frivolous purchases I included a gourmet kitchen complete with a chef who would not only prepare my meals but teach me to cook. Great minds…
