to convince me to like a band. What is it?
Here are mine:
Queen(not a well known song)
Iron Maiden

Clutch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx6FV2qR2TY
Therion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPqVFfT4Kck
Týr: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-galKBUGEs

The Cruxshadows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVNjx4k8mWk
Candlemass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Spu7FWs8ik
Carnival in Coal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_ev5oMPlgs
Please, please, please, ignore the fact that this video has a “She-Ra” video in it. It’s the only non-live version of the song I could find.
My favorite song: Rush - Natural Science
The Band - The Weight
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Mary Jane’s Last Dance
Bob Dylan - Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again
Johnny Cash - One Piece at a Time
The Guess Who - No Time
Tom Paxton - My Ramblin’ Boy
Enya - Cursum Perficio
A Sunday by Jimmy Eat World. I know I know, I keep pushing this 10 year old album but it is simply wonderful. A Sunday is an easy song to catch the lyrics to and is great to sing.
The rest of the album is available on the link too :D.
Not a huge Queen fan, but I really liked the one in the OP. Don’t really have time to listen to the other youtube videos (should really get offline), but I plan to tomorrow night.
Just a song alone? Abney Park - The Secret Life of Dr. Calgori (The link is from their own site, their vault allows you to listen to some of their songs to get a feel for the band. The grey songs usually are ones you can listen to for free.)
If you want a live performance than their Herr Drosselmeyer’s Doll (They link to this video on their MySpace, or did last I saw.) ETA: Herr Drosselmeyer, the kindly Uncle figure giving out gifts in The Nutcracker Suite.
It’s really hard to choose a single song to sell the brilliant green on, especially when it’s not to someone I can drag out my copy for…
Of all the songs I can find by them on YT, this one, I think is the best to sell them on. Not my favourite song by them (though way up on the list), but the best to sell a general audience with, I think.
I really like Abney Park. Really good stuff. My favorite is probably The Wrong Side.
Stigmata Martyr, Breathe (even though it is sappy) Twisted and Broken, Dear Ophelia, and The Wake also are all good. ETA: Meant to say, but didn’t. How can you go wrong with the opening of The Secret Life of Dr. Calgori? “Test tubes and tesla coils, clockwork made and glowing oils, copper, brass, explosive jelly…”
Also, their Sleep Isabella is very nice. I own Taxidermy, From Dreams of Angels, and Death of Tragedy in CD form, and some digital downloads from Lost Horizens.
I’m like Pat Boone today : in a metal mood. Here goes :
White Skull - Greedy Rome
Nightwish - Sleeping Sun
Annihilator - King of the Kill
Grave Digger - Rebellion (The Clans Are Marching)
X Japan - I.V.
Sonata Arctica - 8th Commandment
Rammstein - Mein Hertz Brennt
Blind Guardian - Mirror Mirror
I actually like the “new” (2005) version a bit better – Sleeping Sun – 2005 soundtrack
And I think the one, best song from Nightwish is [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZUQ3xhmu_A&feature=related]Everdream
… Or maybe Dead Boy’s Poem
… or The Poet and the Pendulum (“only” the first 10 minutes…)
Something by Nightwish, anyway!!
Martyn Bennett - Swallowtail from his first album
This song should start playing once you pull up the site, they put up a music widget recently. He was one of the founders of the Celtic Fusion movement. I also recommend all the rest of the songs, MacKay’s Memoirs in particular. The widget has a scroll bar which will allow you to see what other songs are on the player and click them.
